Hebrews 3 “Do not harden your heart”

Central to the book of Hebrews is the preeminence of Jesus Christ as the High Priest and his faithful faith in Christ. However, the hearts of the holy saints who have been called by heaven are easy to harden and harden. Heb 3 presents three models and exhorts the called saints to “do not harden their hearts” (8). Harden means harden and stubborn.

1 “Consider Jesus” (1-6)

First, I was told to think deeply about Jesus. A person's personality and destiny are determined by what he thinks. Contemplating Jesus makes his heart and character gentle, humble, and loyal. Only complaints and dissatisfaction will disappear and you will have the personality of gratitude and joy. It was because Jesus was faithful and faithful, obedient to the God who had raised him, even though he suffered all kinds of hardships and sufferings. Although Jesus was the builder of the house (the house of God, the kingdom of heaven) and the one in charge of the house, it was because he obeyed God and was faithful and faithful despite all kinds of contempt and disrespect. A person who thinks deeply about Jesus like that will not be hardened and hardened easily. Be meek, humble, faithful, and loyal. The heart is warm and soft.

2 “Moses was faithful as a servant in all the house of God” (1-6)

Second, he told them to think of Moses. Moses was faithful and faithful, obedient to God as a servant in the house of God, which is the “church in the wilderness” (Acts 7:38). Although Moses faced many adversity, he did not complain or rebel against God, but was meek, obedient, and loyal. Miriam and Aaron slandered Moses, but Moses was meek and loyal. “This man Moses was more meek than all men on the face of the earth” (Numbers 12:3). Even when Moses heard from God that he could not enter the land of Canaan, he did not complain or complain, and he obeyed and was faithful to God. He exhorted the people of Israel to follow God's word and offered a blessing for them (Deuteronomy 33:1). Those who think of Moses like that will not be hardened and hardened. Be meek, humble, and loyal. If we think deeply about Jesus, imitate Moses, and keep faith and loyalty, we become God's house.

3 “Do not harden your hearts as you were tempted in the wilderness” (7-19)

Third, he told them to think of the people in the wilderness who had hardened their hearts. Although the people of the wilderness experienced the salvation of the Exodus, their hearts became hardened and hardened when they faced difficulties in food, clothing, and shelter and the environment. When I heard the voice of God, my heart became hardened. They slandered Moses and rebelled against God. Despite seeing God's works for 40 years, they were always deceived and hardened in heart. In the end, they could not enter the rest (salvation) of God. Such misfortunes did not occur only in the wilderness age. Psalm 95:7-11 quoted in Hebrews 3 is known as David's psalm, and even the people of David's time became hardened. It was the same in the time of Paul, the time when the book of Hebrews was written, and it is the same in our day. If the heart is hardened when listening to the voice (sermon), even the called saints may “fall away from God” and “could not enter his rest.” Therefore, it is said, “Encourage one another every day while it is called today, lest your heart be hardened” (13). A hard heart is far from heaven, and a meek, humble and faithful heart is near from heaven (Proverbs 28:14).
