Title: Hezekiah's Life Extension / Isaiah 38
Description Hezekiah's Life Extension
Isaiah 38
1. Hezekiah's prayer while sick (1-8)
① Hezekiah's motive for prayer (1-2)
Hezekiah is seriously ill and is in great pain. Isaiah said, 'You shall die, and you shall not live.' Hezekiah prayed with tears when he said that He would take his life. In despair, Hezekiah cried out to God and prayed.
You must become a praying saint in a desperate situation. This is the privilege of the saints, and prayer turns a hopeless situation into a blessing.
② Prophecy of Jehovah’s answer to Hezekiah’s prayer (3-6)
Hezekiah's earnest prayer is receiving God's answer to a great transformation When Hezekiah prayed with tears, God answered, “I have seen your tears.” God's answer to prayer not only healed Hezekiah's disease, but also allowed victory over Assyria.
③ Healing of the disease will be assured. (7-8)
And as a proof of the answer to prayer, He made the sun go back ten degrees.
2. Hezekiah's Thanksgiving (9-20)
Hezekiah's hymn of thanks for answering prayer.
He sang his testimony.
① Hezekiah himself in despair (9-16)
② Hezekiah sings about his own salvation (17-20)
Hezekiah gave me great pain for the salvation of God, to give me peace.
Jehovah saves me.
3. Hezekiah's healing (21-22)
① God's promise for healing (21)
The healing in this text is by the grace of God. Isaiah tells Hezekiah that he will be healed if he takes ‘a bunch of figs’ and puts them on the boil. In this prescription, healing is not done by the fig tree, but by the sovereign grace of God.
Healing is the sovereignty of God.
② Hezekiah’s religious zeal (22)
After Hezekiah has been healed, Hezekiah shows his determination to live in worship only of God for the rest of his life.
