Title: Hidden Treasure / Bible: Matthew 13:44-46
Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, and when a man found it, he hid it secretly, and rejoiced, went back and sold all he had and bought the field. The field in the parable here refers to the church, the treasure refers to the gospel of Christ, and the person refers to the believer, not just a believer, but a believer who discovers that Jesus Christ is the true treasure. Not only do I rejoice, but I have a heart to have Jesus as my prince in my heart even if I sacrifice everything I have.
Therefore, the characteristics of people of faith are those who regard Jesus as their supreme treasure, keep it precious and precious, and live in grace.
Everyone strives to have treasures that make their lives rich and happy. However, when the treasure obtained by investing one's life is not eternal, but like a mist that comes and goes, the sense of disappointment and emptiness will be great. Fortunately, those of us who have accepted, followed and served Jesus as our Savior are free from this foolishness. However, there are people who have been told, “Do not throw pearls to pigs” (Matthew 7:6), but still cannot give up their lust for worldly treasures and live in foolish and pitiful ways. We want it to be a time of precious grace to discover what is the true treasure of life that is worthwhile and worthwhile by opening our spiritual eyes, rather than living a life in vain, deceived by the illusions and excessive greed that the world's treasures bring.
First: Treasures visible to the eye are futile.
Ecclesiastes 5:10 says, "The lover of silver is not satisfied with silver, and the lover of abundance is not satisfied with income. This too is vain." It would not be an exaggeration to say that there are very few people on this earth who are truly satisfied with their income and wealth. To Jung Ju-young, former honorary chairman of Hyundai Group, 'Isn't your money too much? So stop earning now! If you do, it's just the right fit. Why? Because no one in the world is satisfied with their income and wealth.
However, no one can take the material or treasure that is being filled and filled in this way to the eternal heaven. Lee Byung-cheol, also known as Don Byung-cheol, also passed away without any possessions. Can I tell you a funny story?
(Example: A grandmother who wants to die after putting on a diamond ring once.... Let's ask her son.... Talk to her son's neighbor and borrow it for a while.... But the mother who could tell if it was real... I put it in my mouth and swallowed it..... The reason was because of the thought of taking it to the afterlife when I died. We bought it for something.... We humans can never take anything with us. We come empty-handed and go empty-handed.)
J. Gould, an American millionaire, had an uncountable wealth. When he died, he realized the futility of his life and confessed, "I am the most unfortunate and miserable person in the world."
Now we don't want to covet the gold and silver treasures hidden in other people's safes or chests, but we want to find those treasures that Jesus Christ wants us to give them.
Second: The hidden treasure is spiritual.
The hidden treasure is not of the world, it is given by Christ; it is not visible, it is invisible, it is not temporary, it is eternal. The words of Jesus are the love of Jesus, the grace of Jesus is the treasure. That's why they say, "Believe in Jesus and be blessed!" The blessing here is true peace and joy that the world cannot give. This treasure was the treasure that was able to rejoice even when Stephen was stoned to death. To believe in Jesus means to rejoice in seeing what others cannot see, to hear a voice that others cannot hear, and to rejoice, to enjoy and possess what others do not have.
I just want to remind you that you shouldn't come here and try to find what you've been looking for because you can't find it. Such a person has found the wrong address for happiness and the wrong address for treasure, so I want to tell them to go back. But there is one very important thing the church does, and it is where each of us knows that God is the most precious 'treasure'.
Only when I know the true value of my treasure can I confess my wealth and grace and love for God.
You may be familiar with the poet Song Myung-hee, a girl with cerebral palsy.
One of the hymns she wrote is a hymn called "a just God."
I have no wealth, I do not have the knowledge that others have, I do not have the health that others have
I have what no one else has. I saw what no one else saw
I have heard a voice that no one else has heard, I have been loved that others have not,
I realized what others didn't know
A fair God made me have what others do not have, but I have what others do not have.
We need to discover the precious treasure that has been given to us above all else in order to enter into God's wide world and the deep grace of faith. The words of Jesus are the love of Jesus, the grace of Jesus is the treasure.
Until you obtain this treasure, you are still poor, stingy, and pitiful if you have anything in this world. Like Paul, “as one who has nothing, yet possesses all things.” May you discover and possess the grace of the Holy Spirit, the treasure of the joy and power of Jesus life, so that you can confess.
Third: This treasure is given to the one who sold his possessions.
How can I own this treasure? Only those who can sell all their possessions can own this treasure. Jesus teaches us that there is a price to pay to own this precious treasure. The treasure of Christ is not a commodities treasure obtained at a certain price, but an absolute value obtained by supporting all that one has. There are many people who are blind to lottery investing in stocks. There are too many people who somehow failed to get a lot by investing a little. Because God's treasure is discovered as much as the amount of giving up oneself, in order to obtain the precious treasure, we must give ourselves to God preciously.
German theologian Bon Hoeffer said, "Cheap grace is the deadliest enemy of our church." I warned you. Because there are many churches? As I moved around from one church to another, easily becoming a deacon and elder, and acting wildly, Christianity lost its power. Today, we need an attitude to receive expensive grace through grace.
A rich young man came to Jesus and asked, "Jesus, Teacher! What shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus answered, "Sell what you have and give it to the poor, and follow me empty-handed. You will have treasure," he said. But the rich young man left Jesus because he loved visible treasure more than invisible treasure. Jesus made it clear to us, “You cannot serve God with money.” Then in Luke 14:26, “If anyone who comes to me does not hate his father and mother, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot become my disciple.” Unless you forsake him, you cannot be my disciple.” The greatest condition of discipleship, clearly presented here, is "giving up one's self."
Abraham, the father of faith, was the first to possess the treasures of heaven. When God told Abraham to leave his country, his relatives, and his father's house, he left without knowing where he was going. He gave up his affection for his homeland, his parents' help, and even all his possessions. As a result, Abraham became the father of faith.
Moses also left Pharaoh's palace. I gave up on the movie that came before my eyes. They gave up the easy lusts of the flesh to enjoy the pleasures of sin. As a result, Moses became the national leader of Israel and the possessor of the spiritual treasures of Jesus Christ. Not only that, after Peter met Jesus on the Sea of Galilee, he immediately abandoned his boat and net and followed Jesus and became his disciple. As a result, he became a disciple and received the glory of martyrdom by being crucified.
Dear Neul Praise Church members,
Just as Moses abandoned Pharaoh’s palace, Peter abandoned boats and nets, Paul regarded everything as waste and followed the Lord. True glory and treasures that cannot be found on earth will be found in heaven. Until then, I pray in the name of the Lord that I and you will become like me and you walking the Lord's way with grace and faith with thanks and joy.
