Title The Doer of God's Will / 2004. 6.27

the one who does the meaning

1 John 2:15-17, 1 Timothy 6:11-14

Sometimes when I see a certain incident, what would I do if I was in there? What should I do? I often think of my back. Recently, the whole country is divided and discussing the national system, but a man named Kim Seon-il was kidnapped and killed by an Iraqi militant group. Looking at those scenes, how would I have behaved if I had been in that position? What should I do? You will be thinking about your back.

There is a small book called 'Bread of the Day'. When I looked at the first page of the month of June, I saw this story. A woman named 'Wanda Johnson', who is raising five children alone, was in desperate need of money, so she was going to a pawnshop to borrow tens of thousands of dollars using the TV in her house as collateral. However, I picked up a bag of money that had fallen out of the car. When I brought it home and counted it, I found that it was a large amount of money that was more than enough to pay my poor own utility bills and the school fees of my children. A fierce battle broke out in Wanda's soul. After four hours of this intense soul fight, I called the police and returned it. The thought of living rightly overcomes the desire to have things that are not ours.

Think about what it would be like if it were me. How are you?

We too face many temptations and trials in life. How conflicted are we at that time? In today's text, we are talking about three temptations and temptations in the world. These are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

What is the lust of the flesh? This refers to following the filthy sins in order to satisfy the gratification of the flesh. The Bible does not say that the flesh itself is evil. Just be a slave to pleasure, be dominated by the senses, and do not follow the selfish and greedy carnal thoughts of the world. The pleasures of the flesh are like a drink that immediately moistens the mouth, and at first cools the thirsty throat, but in the end it keeps thirsting and harms the body. How much money did 'Wanda Johnson' want? But I have resisted temptation. Temptation came when Joseph succeeded in his own way. If he had followed the temptations for a moment's enjoyment, he would have been comfortable at first, but he would have been doomed in the end. However, don't you know that the future opened brightly for him as he risked his life and started his path centered on the word of God?

The lust of the eyes is the sin of being tempted by what we see with our eyes. luxury, pleasure, vain, etc. Everything that seeks to be satisfied with just the senses belongs here. Modern people are very sensitive people. These are the people who are in the '10 second temptation'. Advertisements on TV are said to have only 10 seconds to spare. Because if you don't like it, you turn the channel right away. That's why we try to grab the viewer's attention with a very sensational, instantaneous screen. Modern people who are deeply immersed in this culture naturally fall deeply into such sensuous things.

In Goethe's Faust, there is a scene in which a scholar named Faust laments that he is getting old despite his great academic success. At that time, 'Mephistopheles' (Satan) comes to take advantage of this gap. Then he asks for a deal, demanding that he sell his soul to give him his youth. Faust succumbs to this temptation and spends his youth prospering, but eventually ends up regretting it. It is a novel that tells us that indulging in the lust of the eyes can result in the sale of your soul.

What is the pride of this life? This is a life that exalts, brags, and pursues vain worldly things. It refers to a life that follows pretense, a life that boasts of appearance, etc. This kind of life is easy to inflate with vanity, to ignore or look down on others. A person must be able to see the image in himself and in others to be a true Christian and to be a mature person.

In this way, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life are the weapons Satan enjoys using and boasting about.

Even Jesus was tempted by this Satan. Satan came and attacked Jesus while he was fasting in the wilderness. He told them to make bread out of stones and eat them. It is a temptation by stimulating the lusts of the flesh. He showed me the glory of the world and tempted me. It stimulates the lust of the eyes. Then jump out of the temple and show your greatness. It was a temptation to have the pride of this life. But Jesus overcame all these things with the Word. And he spoke to us. 'You will have tribulation in the world, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world' (John 16:33)

Unfortunately, however, the first humans, Adam and Eve, were succumbed to Satan's temptation. When Eve saw the forbidden fruit, she said that it was good for food, pleasing to the eye, and worthy of wisdom. To be edible is to be swayed by the lusts of the flesh. Boamjik literally means that he has fallen into the lust of the eyes. What seemed wise enough was what seemed worthy of this life's pride. So, I failed in the face of Satan's attack.

Today, we too are being attacked by Satan like this. 'Take care. wake up Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour' (1 Peter 5:8). Therefore, we must fight the good fight of faith.

In the Word, God tells us not to love these worldly things. Because we are of God, not of the world. Because it's people. Because they are the ones who are being led. Because he is a person who should live like a human being.

Only you man, avoid these

Fight the good fight of faith, pursuing righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness... 1 Timothy 6:11-12

It does not happen automatically for those who want to live a godly life to achieve the victory of faith. Those plans and goals don't come all at once. There are things that go against it, things that get in the way, things that get in the way. Man must fight the good fight of faith against these things. The reason people are not doing well in their religious life is because they are defeated in this spiritual battle.

We must not lose in the fight against ourselves to follow only the desires and comforts of the flesh. Doubts, laziness, and bad habits must be fought and overcome by faith. We must always win the battle with Satan through prayer. We must fight the temptations of sin.

It is easy for us to follow the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. It is easy to feel that the true happiness of life is there. But stand firm in the faith. Pay attention to the word. Life is about doing and following the will, and there is a real reward, happiness, and a real life. All things of this world pass away.

All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flowers of the grass.

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever. 1 Peter 1:24-25

You said it in today's text.

The world and its lusts pass away, but he who does the will abides forever. 17

People, saints, I hope you believe that you are human. Please be sure that you are not of the world, but of heaven. As human beings, avoid sin and temptations, follow the Word, fight the good fight, enjoy the joy of salvation, and keep the faith to the end. In the name of the Lord, I bless you that the Holy Spirit will give you all the ability to do all these things with joy.
