Title The Dreamer, Joseph/Genesis 39:1-6
The dreamer, Joseph/Genesis 39:1-6
1. Dreaming Boy
1) Jacob had 12 sons. Among them, he loved Joseph the most. It was because Joseph was Rachel's son, and he was the 'child of old age'.
2) Joseph was greatly hated by his brothers.
(1) It was because of Jacob's special love.
(2) Because Joseph had two dreams. In one dream, she was tying grain in the field, and her brothers' sheaf bowed down to Joseph's sheaf. On the other hand, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to Joseph. Hearing this dream, the brothers hated Joseph even more and decided to kill him someday when they had the chance.
3) One day, an opportunity came to destroy Joseph, and after he managed to save his life due to the opposition of his oldest son Reuben, he was sold as a slave to Egypt.
2. The person God is with
1) In Egypt, Joseph was sold as a servant to Potiphar, the captain of the bodyguard, a servant of the king. Here, Joseph lived while receiving the love of his father, but had to live as a slave in a foreign land with different customs and customs and no one he knew.
2) Joseph was able to overcome all these difficulties because "God was with him" (39:2,3,21,23). Joseph had faith that only looked to God.
3) As a result, whatever Joseph was doing went well. The master knew that it was because God was with Joseph. So the master entrusted him with more and more important tasks, and God blessed Potiphar's house through Joseph.
4) Another ordeal came to Joseph like this. It was seduced by the master's wife. Joseph overcame it by faith in God. So the result was to go to jail.
3. Joseph Becomes Prime Minister of Egypt
1) God did not leave Joseph of faith as it is, but instead made him prosper in prison, and allowed him to meet the servants of the king of Egypt, and through this, he was able to go to the king.
2) This is because God gave Joseph great grace and wisdom so that he could interpret his dreams well. So Joseph became prime minister of Egypt.
3) At that time, Egypt and the surrounding areas experienced 7 years of abundance and 7 years of famine as God had made them dream through the king of Egypt and taught them through Joseph.
4. Joseph forgiving
1) Seven years of great famine has come. In Egypt, Joseph's policy provided sufficient food for famine. However, the neighboring countries could not endure the famine, so the procession that came to Egypt to obtain food did not stop. Among them were Joseph's brothers, who lived in Canaan.
2) Joseph's brothers bowed down to Joseph according to the dream he had in the past. Joseph reveals his identity, teaches God's great will (45:5-8), and forgives. Joseph was a man who showed by faith that the protagonist of all history is God (50:19-21), and that he can only obey God's will and be used regardless of whether he is happy or unhappy.
