Contents
Leviticus teaches the ways to come to God in the Old Testament times. It also foreshadows access to God through Jesus Christ today.
Therefore, Leviticus must be seen through Jesus Christ.
The feasts of the Lord are festivals ordained by God. Although it is a model of the blessed days that will be fulfilled through Jesus Christ, God met the covenant people of the Old Testament by giving them days of joy.
Sabbath (Leviticus 23:1-3)
The Sabbath is a day to rest from all our work in memory of God's work of creation, which rested on the 7th day after finishing the 6-day work of creation. Also, it commemorates the liberation from slavery in Egypt to freely worship God. Today is the day the redeemed saints take a break from work and worship.
Passover (Leviticus 23:4-5) Although it is a day to commemorate the liberation from Egypt on the 14th of the first month, for today's saints, it means the liberation of sins through Jesus Christ, the Passover lamb. In this way, the Lord's Supper is held instead of the Passover ceremony.
Feast of Unleavened Bread (Leviticus 23:6-8) From the day after the Passover, we ate bitter greens and unleavened bread for 7 days to remember our slavery in Egypt. But now I think of the cross of Christ and give thanks. do labor.
Feast of Firstfruits (Leviticus 23:9-14) The first sheaf of grain is offered. It is the day after the first Sabbath after the Passover, and it is the thanksgiving of the firstfruits. We also remember Jesus Christ, who was the firstfruits of those who slept.
Feast of Weeks (Leviticus 23:15-22) (Feast of Harvest, Pentecost) It is the Feast of Pentecost, 50 days after the Feast of Firstfruits. The event of the coming of the Holy Spirit was given. This time is also called Maekchujeol because it is the harvest season of rice grain. Today, with the coming of the Holy Spirit, we are spending the last harvest time.
Feast of Trumpets (Leviticus 23:23-25) July 1st. Blow the trumpet to celebrate a new beginning.
Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:26-32) July 10th is the day of the grace of receiving the forgiveness of sins for a year.
Feast of Booths (Leviticus 23:33-34) On July 15th, we will spend 7 days in booths. We commemorate our past life in the wilderness like a miracle after we were saved from Egypt. Since it is the period after the harvest, the whole family spends a week there with gratitude and peace of mind. Also, this is a season to look forward to the eternal rest of the saints.
The feasts of the Lord are not mere ceremonial days, but rather a feast of unity to God in thanksgiving. It is among us as a festival more alive because of the cross
