Title The Flying Scroll / Zechariah 5:1-4

Content This text: Zechariah 5:1-4

Subject: The Flying Scroll

summary

Zechariah's sixth vision was that of a flying scroll. It symbolizes “purification”. God wants His people to be clean. The rebuilding of the temple is not just a tangible building, but also involves cleansing the heart.

Introduction

1. The prophet Zechariah saw a vision of a scroll flying into the sky as the sixth vision.

2. The scroll is none other than an old book. In ancient times there were two kinds of books. There were folding books and scroll books in the form we have today. However, the Old Testament was a scroll.

I. A book that symbolizes judgment

1. It was said that the size of the book flying in the sky was about 10 meters long and 5 meters wide, so it was a huge book for a book.

2. It was like a book about the size of a mat. Zechariah looked at what was actually written in this great book. Many Bible study scholars have found a book that is the same size as the book while studying this book, and found that the porch of Solomon's Temple was the same size as this book.

3. The porch of Solomon's temple was where the law was read. It has some great significance that a scroll the same size as the porch where the Law was read flew through the sky.

4. It was said that the words written on the scroll are unavoidable and irrevocable.

5. And he said that the writings in this book would be pouring out at any moment. This symbolizes God's judgment.

6. When a scroll flies here and there and falls on the ground, then the curse of God begins to fall.

II.Who do you judge?

A. The thieves are judged.

1. A thief is a term used to describe someone who steals other people's belongings. However, the range of thieves is very wide. It's not just about stealing things.

2. If you make a promise for a time and make the other person wait for a long time because you can't keep the promise, this is also theft of time. We promised time to worship with God. If you are late and fail to arrive in advance, this is also a thief, and if you waste your time without praying, this is also a thief against time.

3. There are countless things to be thankful for in the modern world. But we have become addicted to ingratitude. Of course, not being grateful for something to be grateful for is clearly theft.

4. If you do not evangelize even though you should evangelize, this is also stealing.

B. He judges those who swear falsely.

1. Many saints make oaths before God. make a promise But in practice it doesn't work that way. There is absolutely no way of knowing what the outcome will be.

2. Jephthah in Judges dared to swear before God. It was a terrifying oath that if he allowed him to win the battle, he would catch the first person to come out and welcome him and offer it to God. But none other than

This is because there was only one daughter and a man and one daughter.

3. Jesus warned us not to swear ever. Don't make promises you can't keep.

Verse 4.4 says that God will enter the house of the false swearer and stay there and burn down the wood and stones in that house. In fact, the Israelites promised to rebuild the temple but did not keep it 15 years later. So he made a false oath.

5. We appeal to God. If God hears my prayers... we will do this... we promise hard. But what happens when God hears His promises?

6. Take a look at yourself. Have you ever robbed and made a false oath before God? I must not be the object of such judgment before God.
