[The Lord who followed] John 21:15-22 2007,05.20. Teacher's Sunday Worship
The Lord was looking for disciples in Galilee. Because the disciples were fishermen, after the death of the Lord, they went back to their hometown and returned to catch fish and make a living. So Peter and the disciples were already fishing in Galilee as fishermen. That day, he appeared to Peter, who had made a mistake in fishing, and after filling his empty net with fish, he let Peter experience the power of the Lord and said to him, “Follow me.” The Lord shows Peter his power by following Himself, and not only Peter but also us who follow the Lord as teachers teach Him as Savior, Counselor, and teacher who guides His future path.
Today is Teacher's Day. It is a Sunday to celebrate the grace of the Lord who has come to us as teachers, that is, teachers. And when we preach the gospel of the Lord and follow the word of the Lord, the Lord is in front of us as our teacher.
1. Jesus, the Comforter, opened Peter's closed eyes and taught.
Jesus' official title was Teacher. So people called Jesus Rabbi. The Jews had scribes and lawyers who could interpret and interpret the Word of God. They were called teachers of the law, or rabbis. However, Jesus' rabbi was a teacher who preached the Word with authority unlike them. He loved sinners, did not reject publicans, loved the souls of people, and was always on the side of the truth, putting his words into practice and setting an example.
On that day, the Lord met Peter, who returned to an empty boat without catching a single fish after a hard day at sea, and filled his net with fish to fill his stomach. And because of that incident, he awakened the soul of Peter whose eyes were closed with the fish of the world. So, we believe and hope for this kind of Jesus as the true teacher, and we engrave it in our hearts on Teacher's Sunday.
2. Jesus taught by calling again to the life of resurrection.
3. We teach others to follow the Lord no matter what.
We are followers of the Lord. As the Lord said to Peter, He is the teacher who opened the way for us and set the example of the goddess. I hope that you will become believers who follow the Lord who is our teacher.
When Peter heard these words before the Lord, he saw John standing beside him. And, Lord, what will happen to that John? I ask. Then the Lord said, “If I let him remain until I come, what does it matter to you? It doesn't matter to you, follow me." Don't care about others, follow me. What we believers should always keep in mind when following the teachings of the Lord, who is our teacher, is that we must always meet the Lord alone and stand alone in our faith, regardless of others who follow Him.
The Lord has given us that when we follow Him, we don't care what other people do, but only follow Him. This teaching of the Lord is very important. He told me not to make excuses for following the Lord.
4. The boat overturned and several people fell into the water. The rescue team comes and throws the lifeguard. But what if someone drowning says no one will catch me because no one else can catch it? Is there anyone who is crazy that someone else will fall into the water and I will also fall into the water?
In the first part of John Bunyan's Journey to the Heavenly Father, Christendom is told to go to heaven in this world and packs up to leave Jangmangseong. After packing up, I go around the neighborhood to see who is really leaving. Knocking on the door of this house, and leaving this house too? Go into another house, are you leaving this house tonight? From house to house, are you leaving? But no one leaves. I knew I was alone. So did he leave? Would you have hesitated? As the Lord said, do you follow me no matter what others are? So he goes to heaven alone.
The teaching of the Lord means that even when we give our Lord's devotion, service, evangelism, and tithing, do not care about others and do your own thing. “Everyone, let’s serve.” If you do, no one will do it. let's not do it “Let’s evangelize.” If you do, no deacon will evangelize, so what do lay people like us do? let's not do it “Let’s tithe.” If you do, no one is a butler, so let's not do it. The Lord says: If they all don't, what does that have to do with you? You must obey my orders. So today, we hope that you will become believers who follow the Lord only because of Jesus, not because of others, like the teachings of Jesus, who is a good teacher.
5. Sometimes the words of the Lord are difficult to understand and sometimes difficult to put into practice. When that happens, we worry. What does this mean? And why did this happen? If there is a good God, why is the world so absurd and evil, and why does God leave such a world without punishment so quickly? Even when we read the Bible, there are many words that our brains do not understand. Every now and then, we are tested. But the Lord tells us at such a time, but what have they to do with you? Don't worry about what God is doing, you do what I say. We are not called to analyze and comprehend the Word with our heads, we are only taught to do it with determination.
So, while thinking about the deep meaning of these words, “Follow me,” we take to heart the teachings that Jesus, our teacher, entrusted with these words.
1) To follow me means to turn to the Lord with repentance. The way to follow the Lord is to change the way we have lived so far, to turn around and enter a new way. If the path I am taking is not the path to life, we must turn from it as soon as possible. Because the more you go on, the more distant you are from life. So eternal life comes from determination. That is why we call faith a decision. If you are going to Seoul and get on a car going to Busan, you need to get off the bus quickly and change. This grind is called conversion, repentance, and coming before God. To follow me means to make this decision.
2) The Lord set an example for us to follow with these words. As a teacher, Jesus tells us that the burdens that I carry are easy and light, so take off your heavy burdens and come and learn from me. What the Lord has told us to learn is that we resemble the image of his gentle teacher who showed us.
Lord, as a teacher, what shall we, his disciples, follow his example? First, we must imitate and follow his meek personality and his humble appearance. Learn the love of the Lord Christ, who said, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.” Learn his humble heart, learn his chaste life, learn his justice, his courage, sacrifice, and compassion for others. He is a teacher of compassion and mercy. 2 Peter 1:5 says, “For this reason, add to your faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control patience, to perseverance to godliness, and to godliness, to brotherly kindness, to brotherly kindness to love.” He does. Are we learning by following Jesus with this kind of heart?
3) Jesus tells us to practice according to what he has done. Jesus preached the gospel to the poor and healed the sick. And he preached the kingdom of God by being friends with tax collectors and sinners. He wandered through the mountains and fields to find the one lost sheep. From that figure, we know that our great Teacher, the Lord, had compassion on our people's lives. And we also hear the saying that we should be people who value human life and do what the Lord has done.
To save a lost soul, he traveled a long, dusty road in Samaria and trudged down to Jericho. The Lord who became a good Samaritan who came down that road to save a man who was hit by a robber, His appearance is the Lord who saves our lives. And we urge you to do the same. I have set an example for you as a Lord and a teacher according to your words, and so should you.
4) This is a message to follow to the end in any circumstance and in any case. It means to follow me not only in the place of receiving the Lord's favor, where the sick are healed and enjoying grace, but also in Israel and Jerusalem where they are suffering. They will follow you to Gethsemane. Just as Ruth follows her mother-in-law Naomi to the end. It must be as Elisha followed to the end of Elijah. It is saying that I should not change my faith from the place where I believe in the Lord, and always return to the position where I find the Lord anew in the Lord.
Conclusion.
No matter what the Lord, our Teacher, commands us to do, you must follow me, and no matter what others say, do not change your mind to follow me. As a disciple of the Lord who receives and practices the teachings of the Lord, can you clearly answer and follow the Lord who is your teacher? It is the Lord who asks. Let's rely let's love Trust us and follow us. I pray that the grace taught by the Lord as a teacher will fill the hearts of our saints and the disciples of the Lord.
