Title The lust of the flesh
Contents
Hymn: Chapter 434, “Come to My Way”
Meditation: A life that follows the lusts of the flesh is a life that perishes. As a spiritual Nazirite, we must long for a life separate from the world.
Text: "Delilah said, "Samson, the Philistine has gone mad against you." Samson awoke and said, "I will go out and shake myself off as before," but she did not realize that the LORD had already left him. . ” (Judges 16:15-22)
Delilah continues to seduce Samson to discover the source of his power. In the end, Samson even tells Delilah that he is a Nazarite and that he must not put a razor on his head. And he tells us that the source of his strength lies in his hair.
However, it would be incorrect to say that the source of Samson's strength lies in his hair. Samson's strength came not from his hair, but from his relationship with God. Because Samson was a Nazarite, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and because the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, Samson was able to exert power beyond what the world could handle.
While Samson slept on Delilah's lap, Delilah shaved seven strands of Samson's hair. Then he realized that Samson's power had disappeared. The reason Samson's body did not show the same strength as before was because the Lord had left him. But Samson didn't realize it. The Lord left Samson because he lived according to the lusts of the flesh. We must decide between living according to the lusts of the flesh or by the lusts of the Spirit. You can never follow both. The Bible says, “The lust of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the lust of the Spirit is against the flesh, and the two are against each other” (Galatians 5:17). Therefore, as spiritual “Nazirites,” you and I must go against the desires of the flesh and thoroughly follow the desires of the Holy Spirit.
When Jehovah leaves, Samson's life becomes miserable. The Philistines took out Samson's eyes. It is the result of disobedience that followed the lust of the eyes. Samson, whose eyes were plucked out, was tied with a brass cord and was used to grind a millstone in prison. When God leaves, life becomes such a miserable life. Dear brothers and sisters, I bless you to enjoy the blessed life that God is with you through the filling of the Holy Spirit wherever you are, and whatever you do.
Prayer: Good God, lead us to a life of following the desires of the Holy Spirit, not the lusts of the flesh. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
