Sermons for Preaching

Title The Master's Appearance (Luke 9:28-33)

Contents

sermon

( )

(…) Last May 15th was the 26th Teacher's Day. In Songpa-gu, an article was published that Principal Joo-seong placed the students on the podium chairs in the auditorium and washed their feet. On Teacher's Day, students should show respect and service to their teachers, but it's the other way around. The principal said, “Teachers put this into practice in order to serve students first.”(…)

Today, I would like to share a message about Master.(…) As I always say, the word "master" is different from the word "teacher". Students are learners and teachers are teachers. Teacher and student are between teaching and learning knowledge. However, a teacher and a disciple have nothing to do with knowledge.(…) A teacher does not have a good academic background and a degree. A teacher is a great person, an awakened person, a living person.

In today's text, we see the scene where Peter saw the Lord praying on Mount Hermon. Peter saw the figure of a Master with fearful justice, quiet truth, and overflowing mercy. (…) Look at the figure of the Lord praying on Mount Hermon. It's like a high mountain. So, Peter confesses, “You are the Son of the living God.” (…) Peter saw the cross, resurrection, and ascension, which are the core of Jesus Christ, the Master.

Moses, whom Peter saw on the mountain, is a symbol of Israel's faith. Elijah is the symbol of the nation of Israel. “Who do you say I am?” Peter meets Jesus and confesses. “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” The Lord is the personification of love. When the three are put together, it is the figure of the Master. Who is my teacher? I hope you can answer Jesus Christ. The figure of the teacher is as high as a mountain, tall and alive.(…)

This kind of meeting is precious to us as well.(…) We meet Jesus through the Bible. As we meet again and again, we see the heart of the Lord. That is why we meet the Lord as if we were climbing a high mountain. Because you climb high, you see wide. We see the world as small and we see God as large. (…)

A person must have a family, friends, and a teacher to function as a person. A Christian should have Jesus Christ as his teacher. “Who do you say I am?” “I am the Son of God.” And confess that my teacher is Jesus Christ. Then we too will become great people, awakened people, living people - people who are clean without fighting, people who are incorruptible, and people who are converted. Amen.
