The most tragic answer - we don't know. (Mark 11:27-33)
Having authority is a very important matter. To do work, you must have authority.
In order to crack down on harmful establishments for the protection of youth, it is possible only if the authority to crack down is given.
Today, I hope that the three questions of this authority will be answered and the character of faith will mature.
1. What kind of authority does Jesus really have over me?
2. With what authority do I live?
3. What will I do with this authority?
1. The question of Jesus' authority.
Verse 28. He said, "By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you authority to do these things?"
28 and [began] saying to Him, "By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do these things?"
Jesus did the work with authority.
Jesus' power is shown in healing the paralytic, forgiving his sins, teaching the people, and purifying the temple.
The scribes and Pharisees question this authority.
By what power??? Who gave you the power??? do you do this?
Jesus spoke and showed what this authority was and where it came from.
[Luke 5:23-Luke 5:24]
(23) Which is easier to say, your sins are forgiven, or to say, get up and walk?
(24) But I will let you know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." And he said to the paralytic, "I tell you, get up, take your bed, and go home."
The authority of Jesus is the authority given by God the Father.
[Matthew 11:27] All things have been given to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and he who receives a revelation as the Son wishes.
[Matthew 12:5-6] And have you not read in the law that on the sabbath the priests break the sabbath in the temple, there is no sin? (6) I tell you, one greater than the temple is here.
[Matthew 12:8] The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.
[John 11:25-John 11:27]
(25) Jesus said to them, I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me will live even if he dies.
(26) Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?
(27) And he said, “Surely, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God who is to come into the world.
Jesus is the one who has the authority to forgive sins/ the power to purify the temple/ the power to cast out demons/ the power to judge/ --- the authority as the Son of God.
we have to ask
Do I really know and acknowledge the power of Jesus?
Job's confession is one of the most wonderful confessions of those who not only know God's authority but also acknowledge his sovereignty.
(Job 1:21-22) 21 He said, "I came out naked from my mother's womb, and I will return naked there; the LORD gave and the LORD took away; blessed be the name of the LORD." (22) In all things Job did not sin, nor did he murmur against God.
Do you acknowledge the authority of God, the authority of Jesus Christ?
Then acknowledge his sovereignty. He is our Lord.
He makes both rich and poor. It makes you both male and female.
He both humbles and exalts... He is the King of kings.
Jesus is the promised Messiah and King. The Lord is the head of the temple of God.
You are the Son of God, worthy of praise.
Knowing the authority of the Lord, all we have to do before Him is to kneel in worship and obey His Word.
2. By what authority do I live?
The authority of the Pharisees and scribes was great.
They enjoyed high status and many economic benefits.
There are certainly people in the world who have the power to kill people's bodies.
[Luke 12:4] (Luke 12:5) (4) I say to you my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that are unable to do it any more.
(5) I will show you whom you ought to fear: fear him, who after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yea, I say to you, fear him.
So, what is the authority of John the Baptist?
Where did his authority come from? - This is the Lord's question.
The difference in authority between the Pharisees and John the Baptist did not arise from their size, power, length of possession, or outward appearance.
It arose out of a difference in confession about Jesus Christ, living in obedience to God.
[John 1:29] The next day John saw Jesus coming to him and said, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world!
John the Baptist had authority. That authority comes from God.
His food was wild honey and insects like grasshoppers. The clothes were roughly cut and skinned from wild animals.
[Matthew 3:4] This John was clothed in camel's hair, and a leather belt was girded around his waist;
Living in the same era, same people, same land... Some people lived with the authority of God, and some lived with the authority of the world.
What authority do I want to have?
Is this the world's power? Or is it God-given authority?
[Luke 4:5-Luke 4:8] (5) The devil took Jesus up again, and in an instant he showed all the kingdoms of the world.
(6) He said, "I will give you all this authority and its glory. It has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I want. (7) Therefore, if you bow down to me, it will all be yours.
(8) Jesus answered and said, It is written, Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.
Let us seek to be people with the authority of God.
There are times when the power of the world is envious. But everything flows like a cloud, and after death there is nothing left.
Like Herod, or the high priest, and the Pharisees... Don't be a pitiful person who had the authority of the world, but never knew or enjoyed the authority that God gave them.
3. What are we going to do with the authority we have received?
Having power is important, but how you live with that power is also important.
Yun Heung-gil's novel 'The Armband'
Lim Jong-sul becomes the manager and watcher of the sheet metal reservoir. Jongsul wears an armband as a sign of the janitor... In order to appear more authoritative, he throws away what others have provided and wears an armband with three red lines on a yellow background.
It's as if he got more than a member of parliament badge... He looked down on everyone in the world, ignored the villagers and beat up his friends. Then, he gets fired after being harassed by the CEO who hired him.
Even after that, he can't come to his senses, fights with the staff of the repair association who say that the reservoir is drained in a drought and needs to be used for agricultural purposes, and he is chased by the police.
When authority is given, it is often seen that it actually ruins people.
There are many people whose lives are ruined because they have more money than when they have no money.
There are many people who do not find the meaning of life because they are full of health and academically.
Before his death, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and wiped them with a towel.
And he said.
“I have washed your feet, the Lord and Teacher, so you must also wash the feet of others. I set an example for you to do the same as I did for you.”
With God's authority, don't do anything else, but let's dedicate our lives to worshiping God and preaching Jesus.
[Mt 28:18-Mt 28:20] (18) Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. (19) Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (20) Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you; behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Also, use your authority to serve your neighbor.
Let us also use our authority to serve and love our neighbor.
[Mt 20:25-Mt 20:27]
(25) Jesus called his disciples, and said to them, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles have dominion over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
(26) It is not so among you; whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, (27) Whoever wants to be first among you must be your servant.
People give the most tragic answer to Jesus' question.
‘We do not know’
[Mark 11:33] Then they answered Jesus, "We do not know." Jesus said to him, "I will not tell you by what authority I do these things."
we don't know...
They gathered together and decided to live with only the powers of the world.
By acknowledging the authority of God, he did not risk losing his property, position, or security.
Rather than possessing things related to God and what God can give, he wanted to have what the world could give, and what he could get from this world.
The more we look at the words of the Bible today, the more we realize that denying Jesus is not because we lack knowledge, but because we do not want to have faith.
Because of their lack of faith, they do not want to know more about God, nor do they desire to know more.
To those who have such stubborn unbelief, the Lord says...
'Neither will I come to you'
Let Jesus exalt the Lord and obey his sovereignty.
Let us become workers with the authority that God gives us rather than the sovereignty of the world.
Let's use the authority we have been given according to the Lord's will, worship God rightly, and live a life of serving and building up our neighbors with love.
most tragic life
Not knowing about God's authority and not seriously considering what kind of authority I have. It is also not thinking about what you are doing and living with your authority.
