Sermons for Preaching

Title The name in me, Jesus of Nazareth

The name in me, Jesus of Nazareth/Acts 3:1~10

Key Verse: “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give I give you, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,” said Peter (verse 6).

At the ninth hour, Peter and John are going up to the temple to pray (Acts 3:1). A Christian's godly life is the secret to not only experiencing the filling of the Holy Spirit, but also sustaining a life filled with the Holy Spirit. Peter and John were looking for the temple to pray three times a day. Prayer is the greatest power on this earth. The Jesus Christ we believed in 2000 years ago and the Jesus we believe in now are the same person. They see the same Bible and are built on the same tradition of faith. But why do modern Christians live a life of helplessness compared to the early church members? It is because they are failing in a godly life. When you pray, you receive the power of the Holy Spirit. When you pray, crippled faith can be raised and transformed into walking and running faith.

While going to the temple to pray, “Peter paid attention with John” (Acts 3:4). Peter and John differed greatly in many ways. There was a difference in age and a difference in personality. Nevertheless, we became one in the Holy Spirit while praying. Because they were prayerful people, they did not compete. They joined forces “together” to faithfully carry out the work of the Lord. The word ‘together, together’ is a more important word in the modern age where individualism is prevalent.

The apostle Peter said to the disabled man, “What I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” (Acts 3:6). What should Christians give to those who do not believe in God? We must give bread to our poor neighbors. But that alone is absolutely not enough. Like Peter and John, we must give the name of Jesus of Nazareth who can solve the fundamental problem. The name of Jesus leads people to salvation. It gives true hope, solves problems, and grants great blessings. Only Jesus Christ is the answer to all our problems. Who is the happiest person in the world and who can please God? A person who can confess, “What I have is Jesus.” I hope everyone will be like that.

Prayer: Help me to bear witness to the gospel until the day comes when all mankind can confess that 'Jesus is what I have'. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
