Title The Only God (Exodus 20:1-11)
Contents The core of the first commandment is to not allow compromise on the object of faith. Moreover, if the first commandment is truly obeyed, then obedience to the remaining 9 commands follows naturally. The problem is that because we erroneously obey this first commandment, the other commands are also broken.
(Glossary) Me alone (3): Beyond me, in addition to me, in my presence / Other gods (3): Wrong priest
1. Life in Search of God (Desire) Humans have a longing for God regardless of whether they are primitive or modern people. However, the person who has sinned does not know God right away, so he has “turned them into idols in the form of corruptible men, animals, and scum” (Romans 1:23). The purpose of the first commandment is to tell us what to worship in such a life.
2. Is Jehovah the object of worship? The reason for Jehovah's supreme worship can be found first in his name. This is because this Jehovah shows that He is the true God (Revelation 1:8), who is “who is, who is, and who has been” (Rev 1:8). Not only that, he created all things, provided for them according to his good will, and was a savior and a propitiation offering, so like Joshua, he confesses, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15) (Isa 46:9). ).
3. Other Gods Humans have other gods if they do not believe in God. There are religious pluralists who like Christianity, Buddhism, and Confucianism, and there are even pantheists who think that all creation is God. In particular, there are naturalists who say that God, a priest welcomed by modern people, created all things, but then left it alone regardless. And so-called atheists. There are also agnostics who, like the citizens of Athens, do not know God.
However, it should be noted that believers also have idols. Israel's sin was not in the total denial of God, but because they liked to serve other gods. Do not modern people serve sports, pleasure, honor, money, knowledge and health like God?
Conclusion: Dear Saints! The Lord called out to Golgotha. "Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
