Sermons for Preaching

Title The Overall Gospel/ Luke 4:16-19

Content Total Gospel/ Luke 4:16-19

Key Verse: “The Spirit of the Lord has come upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, and has sent me to preach liberty to the captives, and restoration of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, and to bring to preach the gospel” (Luke 4:18-19).

Word: The Gospel of Luke is a letter from Luke to Theophilus, who is supposed to be a Roman official. When Luke wrote this article, many people were already writing about Jesus. However, Luke intends to describe the contents of his investigation in order, and to have Theophilus confirm what he has already heard. Only the Gospel of Luke tells you what words you read in the synagogue when you started your ministry.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born a sinless body, but he did not testify to the word or perform any miracles until he turned 30. At the age of 30, Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and began his public life in earnest after experiencing the presence of the Holy Spirit. However, he did not immediately testify of the word, but was tempted by the devil in the wilderness. Then he went into a synagogue in Nazareth and read a word from the book of Isaiah, explaining the purpose of his ministry.

The reason the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus was to spread the gospel. And to bring liberation to the bound, to see the blind, and to set liberty to the oppressed. This is the work of the Messiah, which God has consistently spoken through through the Old Testament. He was trying to let people in the synagogue know that he was the Messiah.

After Jesus closed the book, he said that these words were fulfilled here today. He revealed that the prophecies of the Old Testament had been fulfilled. The gospel affects all spheres of humanity, political and social, as well as those who are spiritually bound.

As saints and disciples of Jesus, it becomes clear what we need to pursue. We, too, must first pray for the presence of the Holy Spirit. Without the presence of the Holy Spirit, we cannot gain new strength.

And to bring liberation to the bound, to see the blind, and to set the oppressed free. The gospel is holistic. Therefore, we need to spread the gospel to many people so that we can achieve spiritual liberation. At the same time, we must pay attention to and care for the poor, the sick, and those who are marginalized from society.

This is also the way to do what Jesus commanded us to love one another.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to live a life of walking with the Holy Spirit. Follow Jesus to love your neighbor as yourself. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
