Purpose of giving the Holy Spirit
Acts 2:37-42
Today is Pentecost Sunday. The church began with the coming of the Holy Spirit, revived through the work of the Holy Spirit, and was preached by the power of the Holy Spirit. If we do not know the purpose for which God has given us the Holy Spirit, we cannot become God's servants and cannot fulfill God's mission in this age. Why did God send the Holy Spirit? Let's find out the purpose of the changed saints after receiving the Holy Spirit.
1. To be taught: Peter, who received the Holy Spirit, preached the word, and the Holy Spirit opened the hearts of those who heard it so that they could be taught. “Those who received the word were baptized… ” (Acts 3:41) The Holy Spirit enables us to receive the Word and to give us understanding. John 16:13 “… When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth... ”
2. To have fellowship with each other: The saints who received the Holy Spirit began to have fellowship with each other (koinonia). The Holy Spirit unites Christians through love for one another. “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit” Ephesians 4:3 The Spirit does not separate, but unity. When we receive the Holy Spirit, our hearts are opened to receive, love, and fellowship with each other.
3. To make you pray: When you receive the Holy Spirit, prayer becomes easier and you want to pray. The Holy Spirit helps the saints in prayer. “He who searches hearts knows the thoughts of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:27 When you receive the Holy Spirit, you will pray and your prayers will be answered.
A distinctive feature of those who received the Holy Spirit was that they began to have an active relationship. After the disciples, who were closing the door with fear, received the Holy Spirit, they opened the door and went out to meet people and preach. The Holy Spirit was given to establish relationships and to spread the word. Don't blame yourself for not being courageous and never changing, but let's pray for receiving the Holy Spirit. Because the power of change comes from Him.>
