Lent 30 Day Worship >> ----> Tuesday

Title: The Son of Man Must Hear

Bible: John 12:27-36

Quiet Prayer: Together

Hymn: 304

Representative prayer: Shin Kyung-sook's wife

Starting Point of the Word>>

This time, the sermon will be divided under the title “The Son of Man must be lifted up”.

In today's text, you can see that Jesus was telling his disciples in advance that he would die on the cross soon.

Through the words before the text, Jesus taught his disciples that he must save mankind by dying like a grain of wheat.

It is that the One who is equal with God will forsake the throne of heaven and take up the cross for sinners on this earth.

According to John 3:14-15,

“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man come in so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”

is saying

When the people of Israel came out of Egypt and lived in the wilderness, when Israel came to Mount Hor because it was not according to God's heart, God said that they had to live in the wilderness along the Red Sea road again.

At this time, the people of Israel complained about God's grace and the leader Moses, who had protected them.

At this time, God sent fiery serpents among the Israelites to judge them.

Only then did Israel realize their sin and ask Moses to pray for intercession.

God heard Moses' prayer,

Through the words of Numbers 21:8, He commanded them to make fiery serpents and hang them on a pole.

Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole, and those who looked at it were healed.

The brass serpent hanging on a pole in Numbers 21 symbolizes the cross of Jesus Christ.

Today, we hope that it will be a time for us to listen to what Jesus said, “The Son of Man must be heard,” and to be in the place of the Lord's grace.

Go to Word>>

What is the meaning of God's word to us through the word of today's text?

First, it is saying that the Son of Man must be heard.

If we look at the words of verse 32,

“When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to me.”

The word “lifted up” in this verse does not refer to the ascension, but to the crucifixion.

This is verse 33 of the text.

“He was saying this to show what kind of death he was going to die.”

But the Jews who were listening to this now could not understand Jesus' words.

So they ask Jesus.

The words of verse 34,

“Then the crowds answered and said, “We have heard in the law that the Christ lives forever. Why is anger that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

At that time, the Jews must have had a heart for fear.

Could the Jesus who healed many sick, Jesus to feed many, and even Jesus who raised the dead to be the Messiah?

However, their expectations began to fade as they talked with the Lord.

They hear the word of God interpreted by their knowledge and question Jesus.

Christ is eternal, so how do you say you must be lifted up?

There is a saying in Korean that “one knows, two don’t know”.

Jews are foolish people who studied the Word with the mind of the flesh, but do not understand the Word spiritually.

As they say, Christ is eternal.

For Jesus, physical death through the cross is just one process of Jesus' work.

They did not know that Jesus was crucified to redeem us, who are bound to die in our sins, and we are slaves to the evil Satan.

If the bronze serpent hanging on a pole among Israel's sins was God's love to deliver them from death, believe and hope that Jesus, who was hung on the cross, became a high brass serpent on a pole for us who would die for our sins in the flesh through the words of today's text. He has promised the way of salvation to everyone who sees it.

Second, “the prince of this world will be cast out”.

If we look at verse 31 of the text,

“Now the judgment of this world has come, and the ruler of this world will be cast out.”

Today, many heretics do not acknowledge Jesus who was crucified as the Son of God, but rather claim to be God or the Son of God.

Jehovah's Witnesses say of Jesus, "He was not the Son of God, but a human just like us, who failed God's work and died on the cross."

In the eyes of people, Jesus on the cross may look like a loser and a loser.

The Jews and soldiers of that time must have thought that they had won by nailing Jesus to the cross.

But in reality, Jesus won, and believe that those who crucified Jesus were failures.

So, the confession of the centurion at that time is recorded in Luke 23:47 as follows.

“When the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God and said, “Surely this man was a righteous man.”

is saying,

In Matthew 27:54,

“When the centurion and those who were guarding Jesus with him saw the earthquake and what had happened, they were very afraid and said, “Truly, this was the Son of God.”

They are people you didn't realize when you were together.

But it was only when Jesus died that he realized that he was the true Christ.

It says that Jesus knew how to defeat the king of the world.

At the time when the Jews were being held captive by the devil, the king of the world, Jesus could not be seen as the king.

However, their eyes were opened when Jesus was crucified.

Among the hymns, there is a hymn called “Our dark eyes”.

If you look at the lyrics,

“Our dark eyes hated him, and our dark hearts did not know him.

We have struck him down with our ignorant scourges, and our wicked tongues condemned him.

Our violence hit him with bruises, and in the example of a murderer we killed him.

We killed him, we killed him, but he is alive and has taken away our wickedness.”

When the Jews at that time saw Jesus, they did not know that he was the Messiah because they did not see him with spiritual eyes.

Today we too can see the Lord through the darkness of our spiritual eyes and by Satan, the king of the world.

That is why Jesus drove the ruler of the world out of us by hanging on a pole and dying.

Third, the Lord who was crucified for us, the Lord who drove out the king of the world, now says, “Believe in the light.”

This is verse 36 of the text.

“Believe in the light while you still have the light, and you will become sons of the light.”

Jesus declares that self-sacrifice for the salvation of mankind is inevitable.

And before you take up the cross, do not miss the opportunity of salvation given to the Jews.

Jesus said of himself, “I am the light of the world.”

Jesus came into the dark world of Israel.

Also, you are with us as light in our dark world right now.

Knowing that the time has come to receive glory, Jesus proclaims that he is the light and tells us to believe in the light while there is light.

But they missed the opportunity.

The Jews rejected Jesus Christ, the light, and instead crucified him to death.

Today, Israel is said to be a people chosen by God, and it is said that they are a nation blessed by God.

However, the blessing of light passed on to the Gentiles without acknowledging the light of Jesus Christ, who had already blessed them.

Now, who we trust is a very important issue.

When we believe in Jesus Christ, who is the light according to the word of the Lord, God's blessings do not pass over to others, but become more full within ourselves.

In the name of the Lord, I ask that you become believers who enjoy the great blessings of God by believing in Jesus, who is the light.

At the end of the speech>>

Today, Jesus knew precisely and clearly about the death of the cross.

So, he explained the meaning, glory, and blessing of death to his beloved disciples in six different ways through the words of the text.

First, the death of Jesus is like a grain of wheat that falls to the ground and rots.

The parable of the wheat is a spiritual lesson, not a moral lesson.

Second, the death of the cross is pain, but it is God's will, providence, and plan.

Third, the death of Jesus glorifies the name of our Heavenly Father.

Fourth, the death of the cross is to give glory to God and to give salvation, eternal life, and blessings to people.

Fifth, the death of Jesus is the expulsion of the king of the world.

Sixth, Jesus' death on the cross is an event that brings all human beings to the Lord.

We must be able to obey the word of the Lord, who tells us that we must be crucified today, and promised God's blessing to us until the end.

And we must enjoy the blessings that God has promised us.

I pray in the name of the Lord that you and the saints will live by the spiritual grace of God, rather than falling into sin and Satan, the rulers of the world.

United Prayer>>

We give thanks and praise to God the Father who carried the cross and showed confirmation of love for us.

We are also thankful for the grace that He took up the cross by loving us, who are the most evil among sinners, and established us in the class of salvation through faith in the Lord.

Grant us a bigger and stronger faith at this time, so that we can overcome the evil devil and live a life separated from the world as God's holy saints.

Let us humble ourselves like a grain of wheat, and live a life that exalts Your name in the place of service.

May there be tears of prayer in our eyes that see the world, service and devotion where our hands and feet are closed, and let our lips always preach the gospel of Christ.

We pray in the name of Jesus, who always grants us strength and makes us God's servants. Amen
