The sun sets on Seosan (Genesis 28:10-22)
We humans often rely on physical strength, intellect, mental power, wealth, and power. It is true that these things help us a little in our lives, but at the crucial moment they are helpless. No matter how excellent these things are, they have no power in the sight of God. However, the power that God provides, that is, the power of faith, is obtained through prayer. Especially now, Jacob is in a weak state that he cannot depend on anything of his own. In Seosan, the sun is setting, there is no place to live, and Jacob is defenseless. How did he deal with these times? Jacob's prayer introduced here shows the essence of prayer. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the most exemplary and ideal prayer. Let us use Jacob's prayer as an opportunity to establish our own prayer.
I. A prayer to believe and give thanks for what is allowed
He slept with the sky as a blanket and a stone as a pillow, and received God's promise in a dream. Dreams were one of the revelation methods in the patriarchal era. God gave Jacob four promises (covenant or covenant).
① Promise to give the land on which to lie (verse 13)
② Promise to multiply offspring (verse 14):
③ Promise to be blessed through offspring (14)
④Promise that God will be with you and bring you back to this earth (verse 15)
Doubting and praying is nothing more than a human complaint. The important essence of prayer is to believe and give thanks to God's covenant. If we believe, pray, and give thanks, that promise will come true in our lives. The Bible is a book of promises. A book full of promises. If you believe in that promise and pray, it will surely come true. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
