Sermons for Preaching

Title To you who are worried and worried.

“Godly sorrow produces repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly sorrow produces death.”

A nurse working in an intensive care unit at a university hospital was always worried.

As usual, she went to work with many worries and concerns. Her husband's and children's education problems, which were declining in business, made her step heavy. Also, due to financial difficulties, she always had a worried expression on her face.

But she was a nurse who took care of patients, so she tried to hide those feelings. He struggled to smile and spare no words of consolation for the suffering patients.

However, it was unavoidable that anguish kept showing on his face. Eventually, many patients noticed her suffering. Among them, a patient who was battling cancer read her concerns and quietly approached her and asked.

"Do you have many wishes?"

It was such an unexpected question that the nurse couldn't answer it in a panic. The nurse hesitated, and the patient opened his mouth again.

"There must be as many wishes as the stars in the night sky? I envy you who have so many wishes."

"......"

"I have only one wish in my life."

He took a long breath and said, "You know what that is? It's living. It's being freed from a damning battle with cancer."

Then he began to wipe away the tears with both hands.

"If only I could live, if only I could live again..."

“Cast all your anxieties on the Lord, for he counsels you” (1 Peter 5:7).

A British businessman named Arthur Pank was always anxious and worried about his business. He, who lived with a lot of anxiety, said, "Is there any way to get rid of it?" I thought about it and came up with a good idea. He set every Wednesday as a day of worry, and whenever he had a concern, he wrote down the date and contents of the worry and put it in a box.

But one Wednesday, while looking through the note in the box, he suddenly realized this. It was the fact that what was a big deal when I put it in the box wasn't much of a problem when I read it again later. As he continued to use this box, he realized that there is not much to worry about and worry about in life.

As the economy deteriorates, many people are suffering from anxiety, worry and worry. One psychologist emphasized that most people are "worrying in vain."

A British hospital found that 30% of blindness is caused by anxiety or worry. Dr. Leonard Posdick of Northwestern University in the United States proved that when a person is anxious or worried, the secretion of saliva is suppressed, and as a result, the saliva in the mouth cannot be neutralized naturally, leading to diseases such as tooth decay. How happy it is to be entrusted with Christ who will give you comfort, peace, and rest.

A woman lost her livelihood because her husband's business went bankrupt and went out on the street. They had nothing to eat and nothing to wear, so they became like beggars. One day, the child came home after being kicked out of school. I stole a pencil from the stationery, but it was found out and I was even kicked out of school. What made his wife even more desperate was the derailment of her children brought about by poverty. The wife held the child and cried. And 'I can't live like this anymore. I decided to commit suicide with my children, thinking, 'There is no meaning or value to live.' After putting the children to sleep, I closed all the doors and turned on the gas valve. For a while, gas leaked out and I was confused. But at that moment, a hymn was heard.

If I bring all my trials and burdens before the Lord Jesus,

Look back on me, filled with worries, take care of all my worries

When I fall down because I can't bear to carry a heavy load alone

Only Jesus, the Lord of this grace who will take pity and save you

It was the 363 hymn that was playing on the radio next door. The hymn shook and awakened the fainting soul of his wife. In the hymn, the woman heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Why don't you put all your trials and heavy burdens on me?"

'Why didn't I think of praying? If you have the courage to commit suicide, you should pray.'

The wife jumped up from her seat, shut the gas valve, shook the sleeping children to wake them up, and pushed them out, and opened the windows of the house. Then I knelt down and wept and prayed.

"Lord, forgive me for my wrongdoing. I have the heart to die, but I have no desire to pray. Forgive me for my unbelief."

On that day, the wife immediately packed up and went down to the countryside with the children. There, he found an empty house and entered into a new life. After the children grew up to be people of great faith, the wife testified:

"If you have the courage to die, change it into courage to pray before God. Not a hundred sighs, but one prayer changes your destiny."

This is the story of Mrs. Marycus Manet in the book "Goodbye, Care." When this woman collapsed with anxiety, she met the Lord of hope, who takes care of all her worries, and was saved, and she gained victory through prayer.

As you go through life, you will never stop worrying. Sometimes we are troubled by diseases that plague our bodies, and we are discouraged by business failures. There are times when I am worried because my children's education does not go as planned, and I feel frustrated because my prayers do not seem to be answered. You may feel skeptical about life when you are betrayed by a trusted friend and turn away from even your blood. No one can live without the crises and worries of life. However, even such a situation is in the midst of God's grace and providence.

When everything goes well, it is difficult to think only of the earthly things and the heavenly things. When you are healthy, you only trust yourself and live, but when you are sick, you depend only on God. Only when we realize that we cannot do it with our own strength can we come back to the Almighty God, who can do everything. Only after disappointment with the one you trusted can you truly relate to your eternal friend, Jesus Christ.

Crisis is a guide that leads people to God, and anxiety is a green light on the Christian pilgrimage. Rather than wishing to live without any worries, it is the right faith to pray more boldly without being discouraged when there are worries. In Christ Jesus, goodbye, sorrow!

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

* Prayer: God, our refuge! Give us peace of mind. The early church members lived without worry in the midst of hardship and persecution. As I entrust all of my life into God's hands, please solve our concerns. I believe that the Lord will always watch over and protect you. May the peace that Jesus gives us always rest upon us. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
