Title Toward Canaan/Numbers 8:1-9:23
Content 7. Toward Canaan
Numbers 8:1-9:23
The dedication of the temple recorded in Chapter 7 continues in Chapter 8. After cleansing the sanctuary by anointing it with oil, the representatives of each tribe give thanks. Today's story begins with the scene where Aaron the High Priest himself ignites the lamp of the sanctuary.
After the lamps of the sanctuary are lit, the emphasis is once again on the duties of the Levites who will now take up the service of the sanctuary. “Because you are a special calling of God, you must always be sanctified. In addition, after a probationary period of 5 years, participation in this tabernacle service begins at the age of 30, and the retirement age is 50. However, even after retirement, he can remain as an adviser and serve the tabernacle for the rest of his life.”
“Now, let’s go to Canaan. That pillar of cloud will guide us.” Finally, a strong step towards Canaan has begun. how many days have passed suddenly the pillar of cloud stopped. “No, did the pillar of cloud stop?” A lot of time has passed, but the pillar of cloud shows no sign of moving at all. People are buzzing. “No, what is this? How many days have the pillars of cloud not moved?” “Moses, how long do we have to wait?” “Come on, let’s ignore the cloud pillar and just go.” “Yes. Let’s do that.”
But Moses adamantly refuses. "no. Unless the pillar of cloud moves, we must never move. Let's wait more patiently. Until that cloud pillar moves... ." “Then, if you don’t move, you’re all going to die here?” "That's right. If we die here, we must not move.”
Aren't they the ones who want to visit the land of Canaan as soon as possible? How anxiously are you looking at the pillars of cloud? But we must remember that true faith is not fitting God into our own time, but fitting ourselves into God's time. We must not get ahead of God in our lives. You must follow him. Because that is the secret to living at the highest level.
