entry
We looked at the people who had been giving alms and praying and fasting until the last hour, and we found that there were two types of people, each of whom did their best. Hypocrites tried to get people's glory, and those who expected to win God's reward were those who acted secretly to win God's reward. It was said that these two kinds of people definitely get the prize. Whether they were hypocrites or expected to receive a reward from God, they could discover that they were doing their best. But today's text tells us not to lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, but in heaven. What the hell was that treasure? And how can it be stacked up in the sky?
1. Hypocrites (hypocrino, those who have no choice but to be judged)
There are two kinds of people in Matthew 6:1-18. The first ones are those who eat out. When giving alms, these people liked to blow the trumpet and announce their good deeds in front of people in order to show them to others. When they did (not idolatry), there were people who disfigured their faces and did not wash themselves.
The hypocrites were people who did their best in their positions, but these were people who tried to be seen by people in places where people gather to announce their good deeds or in places like the Great Estate. He was a person who liked to be greeted by people in high places, and to be called teachers (Matthew 23). They pointed out that they had already received their award.
2. Those who receive a reward from God
Those who wanted to be seen by God were the ones who wanted to be seen by God who sees in secret, not when they were giving alms, praying, or fasting. Because they lived in anticipation of receiving a reward from God, when giving alms, their left hand did not know what their right hand was doing. These were the people who anointed the skin with oil and lived in anticipation of a reward from God, who also sees in secret.
3. Treasure
People do good deeds in their respective positions and do their best to be recognized in front of many people. Students will be rewarded for their positions as students, office workers at work, business owners at workplaces, and other positions because they were never lazy or sly people. Whatever their purpose, they do good deeds and do their best to be recognized before men and before God, so it is clear that they are rewarded. This is what we call ‘treasure’ in today’s text. Furthermore, it says that the true treasure, the treasure we are going to talk about today, is that you become a kingdom of priests and a holy people (saints).
Exodus 19:5-6, “5 All the worlds are mine; if you listen to me and keep my covenant, you will be mine among the nations.
6 You will become a kingdom of priests to me, and a holy people…”
4. What does it mean to lay up treasure on the ground?
The ‘treasure’ is an award given to those who work hard and do their best in their respective positions. There are those who think that piling up these treasures on the earth is all they can do to live for the things that perish in the world. They live in the hope of being recognized and honored by people in the world, but living without hope in heaven. That is why the treasures piled up on earth are as useless as a child of God, just as moth and rust corrupt, and thieves seek and take them away.
5. What does it mean to lay up treasures in heaven?
These were people who understood their relationship with God, realized what it was like to be a child of God, and had hope in heaven. Because they hoped to receive a reward from the God who sees in secret, they too did their best, and they received the reward. They lived in a relationship with God, and because they were rewarded in that relationship, they become treasures stored up in heaven.
Whether we live toward the world or as children of God, the Bible exhorts us to live life to the fullest. When we live in this way, we will be rewarded according to our deeds. But our heart, to seek glory from the people of the world, is to lay up treasures on earth, and all the acts we did in secret to obtain a reward from God are to lay up treasures in heaven, so we can live as saints. The fact is that wherever your treasure is, whether in heaven or on earth, your heart will be.
words coming out
“19 Lay up not for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves break in. It cannot break through nor steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Although hypocrites also receive a reward for all their works of almsgiving, prayer, and fasting, their treasures are like those laid up on the earth, where moth and rust corrupt their treasures, and where thieves and God It will take away even the heart to live in the relationship of All of us who want to live as children of God must live in order to receive a reward from God who sees in secret, and this life is the life of a saint who lays up treasures in heaven. The saints living in the relationship with God will receive a reward from God for everything they did their best in anticipation of receiving a reward from God who sees in secret, and this is to lay up treasures in heaven, because the treasures are in heaven. Our hearts belong to our Heavenly Father, and because our hearts are in relationship with God, we can live a life overflowing with joy, praise, gratitude and happiness that the world cannot enjoy because of the treasures we have accumulated. will live
