title true light
2009.12.20 Sunday Morning Worship Sermon
John 1:9-13 ‘9. There was the true light, the light that came into the world and gave light to every man, 10. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, but the world did not know him. To those who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13. These are those who were not born of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.' - Amen.
Why did Jesus come to this world? What is the historical reason for coming as the Son of God? We must find the true meaning of Christmas.
When God created the world,
Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, and the earth was formless and empty, and darkness was over the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the waters. And God said, Let there be light, and there was light.”
God created light on the first day. This light is not the light of the sun made on the fourth day, but the light that is the source of light. John said in this chapter that Jesus is the true light of the world. So, I would like to share the grace with the word <True Light> in the text as the title.
First of all, it is said that Jesus came as the true light into the world.
1. You are judging that the world is dark
Verse 5 of this chapter says that the light shines in darkness. This means that the world is spiritually dark. In verses 9 and 10, it is said that the light to light the world came, but they did not know him. Because because of sin, we do not understand the truth. If it could be known through the wisdom of human beings, all thinking people would have believed it. Then why do people not believe in Jesus and not understand Him?
John 3:19 “And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, but men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
Because the human mental world is physically accustomed to darkness, it loves darkness more than light. That's why the public don't know Jesus, the true light, so this Christmas season, they drink and have fun on a dark night.
The fact that God sent His Son to be light in a dark world because of this sin is to deny the world's philosophy, morals, and even what is called goodness. Reliefists these days do not ask for repentance and the sins of the world. Not biblical disciples.
And John did not call Jesus just the light, but the true light because there are teachers who try to brighten the world in their own way. They are like lamps that illuminate an era or a region. However, like the sun, Jesus, who came to illuminate the whole world, becomes the light among the lights, the true light.
2. It is the light that makes sinners children of God
Jesus, who came as the light, did not come to judge, but to save. He is the light who came to convert sinners to become children of God. The purpose of Christianity is to make people the children of God (John 6:40). John 3:12 “To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
Even if a rich man adopts a poor man who was abandoned on the road, it is a wonderful gift. But for me, who is going to eternal hell, the grace that God bought with his blood and made him a child cannot be compared with anything.
Romans 8:15 “You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption, and we cry, Abba, Father.”
However, many organizations called the church have misled their intermediate roles and have made people humanly pretend to be children of God. It seems that many people think of believing in Jesus as going to church. You must first repent of your sins and come out of darkness, but if you don't do that, people will misunderstand Jesus.
Text John 1:13 “These are those who were not born of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
Being a child of God is, in a word, not human. When Peter confessed that Jesus was the Christ, Matthew 16:17 Jesus answered and said, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.”
The mission of the church towards the world is to make sinners become children of God, but when they do this physically and artificially, the sacred church causes problems.
The church should say what it is supposed to say, but they spoke ambiguously and spoke kindly, but today the church has lost its spiritual authority. The world is dark, it is a sinful world, we must repent, there is only one God, and only Jesus is our Savior. We lost all our courage in sharing this wonderful news of truth.
3. He is the Light who came to renew the world
Jesus came as the light not only to liberate people from the darkness of sin, but also to bring the world into a new order and to lead a true life. Of course, Heaven will ultimately be given to us, but the present world also wants to change to show the glory of God. In verses 9 and 10 of the text, it is emphasized that Jesus is the one who came with a cosmic and realistic purpose in history who came to the history of the entire global village five times by saying that the world is on the earth.
Of course, through the life of a saint. So, 2 Corinthians 6:14-15 ‘14. You shall not be yokeed with the unbeliever. What has righteousness and lawlessness, and what has light and darkness?
1 Thessalonians 5:5 “You are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness.”
Ephesians 5:8 “You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light.”
Today, we became children of light by receiving Jesus, who came as the true light, through faith. No, the Lord called us the light of the world (Matthew 5:14).
They are people of light who have come to live in the word of truth of the Lord, who has become the true light even for their goals and way of life (Ephesians 5:8). I pray that you and I will reform and win every day in the Lord's truth teaching and covenant, who is the true light, in order to become the messengers of Jesus, the true light, to the world.
