As we look for two extremes in Solomon today, we see Solomon as the greatest successor and Solomon as the most vain failure.
Solomon as the greatest successor
Solomon who ascended to the throne, who enjoyed the highest wealth and glory, and the wisest Solomon.
Solomon as the biggest loser
Most people envy Solomon. Today, let's look at the dark side of Solomon and realize how he can be a loser from the best at the best.
Looking at the lament that Solomon's life is “vain, vain, and in vain”, we look for the plowshare of his failure. Solomon inherited so much from his father David. A strong country, a strong throne, a rich country, strong diplomacy, great faith, and outstanding people. Nevertheless, if he becomes a failed king, he is the greatest loser.
What is the difference between this success and failure?
What fills Solomon's heart? Where are Solomon's eyes headed? Where is Solomon's ear listening? What is Solomon thinking about all day? Where is Solomon's footsteps looking for today?
Looking at the path of Solomon's failure, Solomon loved a foreign woman. God clearly told us not to marry a stranger. He said that if we marry, we will make them follow their gods. Solomon loved the women, and they turned Solomon's heart. Verse 9 says, “Solomon turned his heart and departed from God.”
Who are those women? All of them are people that God hates. Each of those women approaches with the scent of the world. Solomon succumbed to their sweet scents, their sweet whispers, and their temptations. When people love, they lose. God loved us so much that He gave His only begotten Son. Parents love their children more, so no parent can overcome their children. I hope that you will not love the kingdoms of the world, do not blame the circumstances and conditions, but live in the Word of God.
