Subject: Unexpected question Unexpected answer
Text: Matthew 16:13-20
Elder Shin Il-duk, who appeared in the article, is now the chief captain of Korean Air and achieved the 20,000-hour accident-free flight that all pilots long for. And he testifies that he has lived safely to this day with the help of God in the midst of countless deaths while flying for 41 years.
In that testimony, there is something like this: In 1958, when he was attending agricultural high school in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province, while swimming in a stream with friends, it suddenly rained and the place where he escaped from the rain was under the eaves of the church. I liked the sound of the hymns inside, so I went to church and got up at 5 am every day and rang the church bell for a year.
But one day, a man in a white robe appeared in a dream and said, "Why do you ring the bell every morning?" was what I was asking. So, "I think that I look good to God and that he will bless me." I answered. Then, a few days later, another man in white appeared in a dream and said, "What do you want to become? I asked a question.
Since he was attending agricultural high school at the time, he should have replied that he would become a farmer, but suddenly he said, "I want to fly." ' he gave an unexpected answer.
But a few days later, an employee of the National Railways boarding house at his house handed out an application and said, "Indeok-gun, you seem to be studying very hard. was to say Then, a few days ago, I remembered that I had dreamed that I wanted to fly in the sky, and I said, "It's amazing! I took the exam with the feeling of 'that', and I was able to get into the National Aviation School after defeating a 12:1 competition to select 10 state students at the time.
Ladies and gentlemen, the question, "What do you want to become in the future?" in the dream of a person in a white robe, was a question that Shin did not expect at the time, and said, "I want to fly." His answer was also unexpected. However, due to unexpected questions and unexpected answers in his dreams, Shin's life was decided as a pilot who flew an airplane for the rest of his life.
Everyone, have you ever experienced unexpected things such as dreams or fantasies, unexpected people appearing, asking unexpected questions, and unexpected answers?
As I read the testimony of Lee Shin-ro, I remember that such an incident occurred in my life as well.
After I was discharged from the army, I fasted and prayed at the Osan-ri Prayer Center, and I met God while fasting and heard the voice of God. And a few days later, while praying, I heard another voice, and I had to ask him three questions.
And to my three questions, he answered two with certainty and one did not.
Everyone, Elder Shin said, "I want to fly." That is, the reason I asked three unexpected questions in my dream was not made by man, but God made them to ask such questions. And God wants us to lead our lives on the right path through the unexpected question and the unexpected answer.
In today's text, Jesus asked his disciples a question.
"Who do people say the Son of Man is?" Then the disciples answered. “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and some say Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
Then Jesus asks another question. "Who do you say I am?" Peter immediately answers this question. “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Then Jesus said, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in heaven." said that
"Who do you say I am?" To this question, if Jesus' disciples said, "You are a carpenter, a scholar, and a teacher." If you answered yes, the Lord must have been very disappointed. But like others, "The Lord is one of the great prophets." Even if he answered, the Lord would not have been satisfied.
However, I received an unexpectedly wonderful answer. This answer came from the mouth of Peter, who had not learned much about it. “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Christ means 'the anointed one'. That is, Jesus is King, Prophet, and Priest. And Jesus is the very savior that God promised to send to us a long time ago.
The Lord was overjoyed after hearing such an unexpected and wonderful answer. And he said that it was not you, nor someone who taught you, but God who made this wonderful answer.
God made Peter give an unexpected answer in order for God to clearly teach Peter who the Lord is, and to prophesy what kind of mission Peter will have to fulfill in the future.
After hearing Peter's answer, the Lord said to Peter: "You are Peter. On this rock I will build the church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it." In other words, Peter's mission is to establish a church on this earth, and the church built on the right confession of faith will not be overcome by the powers of Hades.
If Peter's mouth says, "You are the Christ, the Son of God." If that confession had not come out, the Lord would not have told Peter to build a church. In other words, God made Peter to give the right answer, and through that right answer, he built the church, and he prophesied that he would overcome any power of Satan in the process of building the church.
Everyone, think about it. In our lives, we ask ourselves a lot of questions, and we get a lot of questions. Giving correct answers to these questions can make you feel good, make progress, and save you time wasting. Moreover, it can be of great benefit to be able to give good answers to unexpected questions in college entrance exams or entrance exams. On the other hand, if you can't answer the question accurately and well, you will have to drink the bitter cup of failure and failure.
Everyone, in my house, I have always memorized Psalm 23 during family worship for a long time. And there is one thing that I confidently recite while looking at the English Bible: Psalm 23.
But who would have known that Psalm 23 would be the decisive question in a visa issuance interview? Perhaps God foresaw this time would come and made me memorize Psalm 23 in English. In other words, God allows us to give accurate answers to unexpected questions, so that we do not panic on the road ahead, provide a way of escape, and give us the blessing of prosperity.
To this, Jesus said to his disciples: "If anyone brings you before the synagogues, rulers, and authorities, do not worry about how you will answer or what you will say. At that time the Holy Spirit will teach you what you ought to say." (Luke 12:11-12)
In other words, when we are given a question that we did not expect at all, he makes it possible for us to give a proper answer through the revelation of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, not human wisdom.
Looking at the ministry of Jesus' public life, we have been asked a number of unexpected questions. Among them, the Pharisees and the Herodians asked, "Is it lawful or not to pay taxes to Caesar?"
If Jesus answered this question to pay taxes to Caesar, he would be a traitor to the nation of Israel, and if he told him not to pay taxes to Caesar, he would be punished as an instigator against Rome. If you refuse to answer yes, Jesus will be a gray figure, your face will be damaged and you will lose your leadership.
To this difficult question, Jesus answered: "Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." In response to such a wise and clear answer that no one expected, everyone said, "Hey, it really is Jesus!" and I was surprised.
Ladies and gentlemen, in life, we are faced with many kinds of questions from ourselves and others. Among them, when unexpected questions are given and unexpected answers are given clearly, we realize God's grace, our faith grows, and we can discover the mission we have been given.
May this grace be with you and me.
