Title Unless You Repent? (Luke 13:1-5)
Contents
As long as we live in the world, there are words that are good to hear, and there are words that are unpleasant to hear,
There are words that should never be heard,
Therefore, as God's people, we must be careful with each other's words, and we must live by saying good things no matter who listens.
Because your words, who have become God's people, have the power of blessing,
Those lips who pray, sing, and thank God have the power of blessing,
However, in today’s text, Jesus is using the expression “perish” in the words of Jesus.
To destroy is to curse
You can't stand up, you can't succeed, you can't become a winner
It is one of the most common words used by our ancestors in the old days.
That is why in the old days our ancestors lived hard and difficult,
A parent's words that bless their children make them successful, but words that curse them make them perish.
is going to die
There is a road that people who live on the ground can never succeed,
The road is the road of no repentance
Jesus says
“Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
The Bible warns that those who repent will be victorious and become successful, but those who do not repent will perish.
are doing,
It is not the sinner that perishes, but the unrepentant perish.
Jesus came to save sinners from their sins
His death on the cross opened the way for sinners to become children of God.
If you repent of your sins and believe in Jesus as your Savior, you will receive eternal life, and if you do not repent, you will receive eternal life on the side of the blessed.
is to perish,
What are the tribulations that come to the unrepentant?
1, There is a personal tribulation
The Galilean saints on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem offered sacrifices to God,
The Galileans offered sacrifices before God to show their respect for God and to receive God's favor or escape from punishment.
In Israel, in the early days, sacrifices were offered in various local sanctuaries, but later only in Jerusalem.
There are sacrifices with blood and sacrifices without blood.
In the bloodless sacrifice, fruit, bread, wine, oil, and frankincense were sacrificed; in the blood sacrifice, ox, calf, sheep, goat, and dove were sacrificed for blood.
The burnt offering, which is a very important sacrifice, is usually twice a day (Ex 29:38-41) and the animal sacrificed is completely burned on the altar. We had fellowship with saints while sharing meat
But in this sacrifice, the sacrificers were killed and their blood was mixed with them and offered as a sacrifice.
If we look at it in modern times, it means that he died while worshiping before God.
Because of this, people thought it was because they were sinful,
He thought that calamities and calamities that come to people were the result of sin.
So, I wonder if it's because of the many sins I have when I personally experience difficult things
It is easy for those who suffer from difficulties to think that way, and those who see it think so too.
But Jesus said, not because of sin, but because of unrepentance.
“I tell you, no, unless you repent, you will all likewise perish” (5).
Sin is not a good thing
If all sinners are punished, then there is no one on this earth who can escape punishment.
Jesus came to this earth because of sinners.
But those who did not accept the gospel and rejected it were destroyed.
2, natural disasters are coming,
The tower in Siloam fell,
Siloam is the place Jesus used to open the eyes of the blind
The blind was put before Jesus, and the disciples asked
It is because of whose sin this man became blind.
At this time Jesus said,
John 9:3 “Jesus answered, It was not because of the sins of this man or his parents, but that the works of God might be revealed in him.”
After saying this, spit on the ground, make mud, put it on his eyes, and go to the pool of Siloam and wash.
The blind went to Siloam, washed their eyes, and became bright.
The tower built in Siloam fell and killed 18 people.
people thought
I thought it was because I had more sins than others, Jesus says, who knows their thoughts.
“Do you know that the eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell and died were more guilty than all the others who lived in Jerusalem?” (4)
No, you also say that unless you repent, you will perish like this.
If you do not repent, you will perish.
When you see others suffer calamities, don't ask who's fault it is, but I hope you win through repentance
Repentance is not just a word of mouth; it must bear fruit in your actions.
The Bible teaches us to bring forth fruit worthy of repentance,
Luke 3:8-9 “Therefore, bear fruit worthy of repentance, and do not say to yourself that Abraham is our father, for I tell you, God is able to make these stones also descendants of Abraham. Every tree that does not bear will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
What are the fruits of repentance?
is to love,
If you love, you give up greed and take care of your neighbors, you do not abuse power, you do not complain and you live with gratitude.
3, can't win
Life must succeed and faith must triumph
Some people are successful with money, some people are successful with knowledge, some people
There are people who have succeeded in their health,
Somehow one must succeed
Successful people are more proud than unsuccessful people,
Believers who live by believing in Jesus as their Savior must overcome the devil and win
You have to oppose the devil to win, but if you avoid it, you cannot win
James 4:7 “Therefore submit yourselves to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
If you want to be victorious with the wisdom and courage God has given you, you must repent of your sins and stand boldly before God.
it is possible,
Dear First Church members,
May you draw close to Jesus to be successful in life and to be victors in your faith,
Jesus loves sinners,
He came as a man to save sinners,
In the name of Jesus, I bless you that you may become successful in life and a victor in faith by repenting and living a fruitful life.
nida, amen
