what was the truth

(John 8:31-38; 14:6)

what is truth

(John 8:31-38; 14:6)

Religions each claim to have deep truths. Perhaps there is not one way to the truth, but many. But the Christian faith is very unique in its teaching of truth. As in today’s text, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32), “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). He does.

1. Those who meet the truth realize that they are sinners.

Peter was a man who met Jesus while fishing on the seashore.(...) Peter put aside his experiences and his thoughts for a while and obeyed the Lord's words. The way to meet the truth starts with putting off self-doubt and having an obedient heart. The moment he obeyed, he was surprised that so many fish were caught. Before the joy and gladness in his heart, Peter said, “Lord, leave me. I am a sinner” (Luke 5:8).

A person who has met the truth is a person who has come to understand deeply that he is a sinner.(...) A person who meets the truth is strangely a person who gives up his greed. He left all his boats and nets and followed Jesus.(...) Knowing the truth sets us free from sin and greed.(...)

2. Those who have obtained the truth are those who deny themselves.

The difference between a person who has met the truth and a person who has not received the truth lies in their deep awareness of the fact that they are sinners. A person who realizes that he is a sinner considers the hatred, lies, greed, and pride that come from his desires sinful and denies it. “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Mark 8:34).

The commandment of the Lord to us sinners is a simple command: “Love one another.”(...) To live by this very simple command, we must deny ourselves.(...)

3. A person of love who knows God's grace is not afraid of suffering.

Those who know God's abundant grace are deeply moved by life, have gratitude, have peace, and have deep joy. Therefore, even when faced with hardships, they do not become discouraged. (...) Those who know God's grace do not give up on the path of love, even if they are given hardships and trials.

The most beautiful love (...) is a love that accompanies even the seat of suffering, and a love that accepts even the seat of death. The person who lives with this kind of love knows the truth. A person who embraces love that overcomes suffering and death is a happy person. It is a deep barrier and contradiction in life, but it is precisely because of this love that we can find salvation in this life of many pains and troubles, and it is because of this love that we can (...)

A person who loves is a blessed person, a happy person. Even if there are hardships, hardships, and trials, it is love that does not ruin our lives, but rather gives us beautiful emotions and richness. Jesus taught us that this love is the truth. May God give all of you the joy of loving and living by these truths. Amen.
