Bible: John 2:1-11

Title: Whatever You Say

A banquet house should have a lot of guests, there should be plenty of food, and there should be fun.

If there are a lot of customers but not enough food, or if there are a lot of food but few customers, or if there are a lot of customers and food and people sitting around eating food, it will not be a pleasant feast.

It seems that the wedding feast at a house in Ghana lacked food compared to the guests.

In verse 3 of the main text, it is said, “There was not enough wine”, and at the end of verse 3, “there was no wine”.

The wedding feast in Cana that house would not have run out of food from the beginning.

Wine and food would have been plentiful at first. But as the feast continued, they started running out and eventually ran out.

We can see a slice of our time in this event.

If you think about it, even human life begins with a hundred day feast or a stone feast and ends with a funeral.

The Jews used wine for medicinal purposes, beverages, and sometimes for sacrifices and worship. can.

There is no true satisfaction or true joy in our time. Everyone is weary and tense with dissatisfaction.

My conscience has been dulled, my morals have fallen to the ground, and my morals have run out. Just like in the days of Hosea, truth, kindness, love, and justice have all dried up.

I am not a scientist, but according to scientists, the sea level, that is, the water level is getting higher and higher. That's because it melts.

If that happens, the Earth will not be able to support the weight of the seawater, so it is highly likely that some parts of the Earth will eventually burst or crack.

If that is true, the end of the earth will also be a story that is short-lived due to the dynamics of nature.

There are many people who strongly emphasize the end, citing the explosion of population, depletion of resources, and loss of humanity.

However, I am going to shed light on a new way out and a solution through today's text.

1. The road will open only when you fall completely.

In the case of the Cana wedding banquet house mentioned above, it went through the process of falling short.

If there was some wine left, the people who gathered in the house that day would not have been able to taste the wine the Lord had made.

But because it had run out, he made new wine and they could taste it.

Even in the case of a person's belief, it is more difficult to boast or think that "I have a little faith."

That is why it is more difficult to evangelize to those who know little of the Bible or Christian truth than to those who do not know the Bible or Christian truth at all.

It is similar to the logic that it is more difficult to tear down an old house than to build a new one.

It is difficult for a person to stand before the Savior, the Lord, if he tries to admit 50% of himself as a sinner and 50% of his own righteousness.

When Peter met Jesus on the Sea of Galilee, he confessed, "Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinner."

Think about it. What sin must have been so much for Peter, who went out to sea at dawn and caught fish at night and led a normal life with his wife and children at night?

Would he have conspired? Did you do any trickery? Have you made your fortune by cheating?

But he confessed himself to Jesus as a 100% complete sinner.

When the wine I have made is completely exhausted, the new wine that the Lord is making is filled in the jar.

As the Lord said, new wine must be put in new wineskins. And you must not try to mix the old wine I have made with the new wine the Lord has made.

2. Whatever you say, you must do it.

It was Mary who was the first to know that the wine had run out at the banquet. She told Jesus about this first. And to the servants, what did the Lord say to you?

I urge you to do as you write.

What matters is what the Lord knows. In other words, what I am experiencing now and whether I have told the Lord about this incident like Mary did.

Who wouldn't have that incident, that incident? And who could be in a more desperate and frustrating circumstance than that wine had run out at a wedding in Cana?

But did you tell the Lord about it?

In texts 7-8, the Lord commanded that six stone jars be filled with water, and then, scooped up and brought to the banquet hall.

However, there is a reason why it is difficult for the servants to obey the command willingly.

First, because it is nonsensical.

The six stone jars that were in the house that day were pots for washing hands before and after meals and for washing feet when returning from outings. In other words, they were not wine containers. It's like an emergency meal that puts meat soup in a bowl.

Second, it is unscientific.

Wine is made from ripe grapes. At that time, there were no wineries, so each individual made his own home-made marinade. However, one principle in common is that wine is made from grapes.

There was no case of making wine with pure water (HO) before or after the John 2 incident.

The servants opened their eyes and searched for it, but they would not have found the grapes for the wine. And wine is not instantaneous.

Grapes must be broken and squeezed and stored to allow the liquid to ferment for a considerable period of time.

But now Jesus commanded the servants to make wine in an irrational and unscientific way, so it must have been difficult to obey.

Third, they told me to bring it to the banquet hall, but I wouldn't believe it.

If they hadn't poured the water-based wine, the value of wine would not have been revealed.

Some Zhugyeongga interprets that it became wine while the servants scooped it up and carried it.

From the servants' point of view, they may have had doubts or concerns, such as whether this was really wine or whether they would give it a glass of wine or not.

But they did.

In fact, we have to admit that common sense or scientific thinking that we think is important isn't all that great.

It is common knowledge that the color of the lotus that blooms in the mud should be the color of the mud.

It is common knowledge that milk from cows that eat green grass should be blue in color.

It is common knowledge that death comes first to the old and the young to die later.

But there are more absurd things in this world.

Moreover, the Bible is full of events that transcend common sense and science.

The incident where the Israelites crossed the Red Sea like land, the incident where they traversed the wilderness without starving to death for 40 years, and the incident where 185,000 Assyrian soldiers who had attacked Israel were killed in droves even though no spear had been thrown in one night. From Genesis to Revelation, there is a series of events that transcend human common sense and science.

Today's lesson in John 2:1-11 is, "Whatever he says, do it."

Whether it makes sense or not, common sense or nonsense, scientific or unscientific, just do it.

Isaiah 45:9 says, "Woe to him that is like a piece of earthenware, if he contends with his Maker."

This means that the creature cannot do this or that before the absolute power of the Creator.

There is a reason why we do not obey God's Word as we hear it.

First, because they equate their experiences with the power of God.

In other words, if I run 100 meters per minute, I believe that even God can only run 100 meters per minute.

And because God thinks that because I have failed, God will also fail. Also, because I cannot do it, God judges that I cannot do it.

Second, because Satan has control of the person's heart.

The reason Adam and Eve disobeyed God's Word was because Satan had taken over their hearts. If Satan captured their hearts, they would not obey God's Word.

Third, because of the underestimation of God's judgment.

Read the Bible carefully. All who disobeyed or disobeyed God were judged. Disobedience comes from ignoring or ignoring that fact.

1 Peter 2:8 says, "They stumble because they disobey the word."

The wine miracle at the Cana wedding banquet brought joy and satisfaction to all who were present.

Zhu Ginger Bernard said that six jars of wine was enough to feed 70 families, and Barclays said that it was 180 gallons.

But it's not the amount that matters. The fact that "whatever he said he did" is important.

I filled it with water when I was told to fill it with water. I did it when I asked to float it.

What do we mean by faith? It's about doing what you're told.

If you read the Bible and think that these words are God's commands to you, do not try to get away with these excuses or other excuses, but obey them.

If you are listening to the sermon and realize that these words are the words that you are giving to me today, and if you are touched, do not put it off until tomorrow and put it into practice today.

Acts 7:54 points out the sins of the Jews who listened to Stephen's sermon as follows: "When we heard these words, we were pierced in our hearts and gnawed our teeth at me..."

In John 12:48, it says, "There is one who will judge him who rejects me and does not listen to my words, and the words I have spoken will judge him at the last day."

If you tell him to fill the stone jar with water, let's be the person who fills it up.

If you tell the banquet hall to give it to you while floating, let's just float it and give it to you.

Believe me, let's believe.

Pray, so let's pray.

Don't worry, let's not worry.

Even in a family that is depleted of joy and happiness, if the Lord is there, the miracle of water turning into wine will happen.

Even if the meaning of life is lost and hope is cut off, if you accept the Lord who turns water into wine, new hope will spring up in your life.

"Whatever you say, do it."

That's right. Let's do whatever He tells us today.

Then the empty stone jars will be filled with new values and blessings.
