Old Testament
9. And Jacob said, "O LORD, the God of my grandfather Abraham and the God of my father Isaac, you have commanded me before, Go back to your homeland and to your people, and I will show you favor.
10. I am not worthy of all the grace and all the truth you have shown your servant, but I have crossed this Jordan with only my staff, and now I have made two flocks.
11. I pray thee, deliver me from the hand of my brother and from the hand of Esau, for I fear him, for I am afraid that he will come and strike me and my wives and wives.
12. You have said that I will surely be gracious to you, and I will make your offspring as numerous as the sand of the sea that cannot be counted.
new testament
6. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7. Then the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
sermon
Jacob is left alone by the Jabbok River and is deeply saddened. This is because his older brother Esau, who has been deprived of his birthright and blessing, is bringing his soldiers. We also have concerns that prevent us from taking a deep breath and always staying in the corner of our hearts and not smiling. What would happen if this concern turned into prayer?
1. It is up to you to turn your worries into prayer.
Philippians 4:6 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but... pray."
It's not up to us to have something to worry about, but we can choose whether to pray or worry about it. God wants us to choose prayer.
2. God gives to those who pray, the peace that the world gives and other peace.
Then the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds.” True peace comes from knowing that God is in control.
3. There are three certain things to those who pray.
(1) the fact that his citizenship is in the kingdom of Christ
(2) the fact that his fate has been decided
(3) The fact that he can overcome sin and triumph.
Jacob decided to pray in a time of anxiety. Then his fight no longer bothered him. It was because he knew that when he entrusted all his sovereignty to God, the end of the battle was transferred to God.
