Matthew 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Jesus Christ, the descendant of Abraham and David, is the focus of Matthew 1:1.

Matthew 1:2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

Abraham's descendants, beginning with Isaac, led to the lineage of Judas and his brothers.

Matthew 1:3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

Judas begat three generations of descendants, Phares, Zara, and Aram, through his wife Thamar. (Matthew 1:3)

Matthew 1:4 And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;

Salmon, the son of Naasson, is listed in the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1:4.

Matthew 1:5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

Ruth 4:17-22 reveals God's faithfulness to the descendants of Boaz and Ruth.

Matthew 1:6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

Jesse was the father of King David, who in turn fathered Solomon through Urias' wife. (Matthew 1:6)

Matthew 1:7 And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;

Matthew 1:8 And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias;

Asa passed on a legacy of faith to his descendants, as mentioned in Matthew 1:8.

Matthew 1:9 And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;

Ezekias was the son of Achaz, who was the son of Joatham, who was the son of Ozias. (Matthew 1:9)

Matthew 1:10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;

Ezekias begat Manasses, who begat Amon, who begat Josias (Matthew 1:10).

Matthew 1:11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:

Josiah fathered Jeconiah and his brothers during the Babylonian exile. (Matthew 1:11)

Matthew 1:12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

Zorobabel was descended from Jechonias, a captive of Babylon (Matthew 1:12).

Matthew 1:13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;

Zorobabel's lineage was traced through Abiud, Eliakim, and Azor (Matthew 1:13).

Matthew 1:14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;

Eliud was a descendant of Azor, according to Matthew 1:14.

Matthew 1:15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;

Jacob, descended from Eliud, was the son of Matthan. (Matthew 1:15)

Matthew 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Joseph was the husband of Mary, and Jesus, the Christ, was born from them. (Matthew 1:16)

Matthew 1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

God's faithfulness is illustrated in the fourteen generations from Abraham to David, from David to the Babylonian Exile, and from the Exile to Jesus Christ.

Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

The birth of Jesus was miraculously conceived by the Holy Ghost, as Mary was found with child before she and Joseph had come together.

Matthew 1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

Joseph, a just man, chose to quietly divorce Mary instead of publicly shaming her. (Matthew 1:19)

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Joseph is reassured by an angel from the Lord to marry Mary, as the child she is carrying is of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Jesus is the savior who will deliver us from our sins (Matthew 1:21).

Matthew 1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

This passage is referring to the fulfillment of a prophecy from the Lord as spoken by a prophet, as seen in Matthew 1:22.

Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

God is with us, as Emmanuel reveals. (Matthew 1:23)

Matthew 1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

Joseph obeyed the Lord's command and took Mary as his wife (Matthew 1:24).

Matthew 1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

Joseph accepted Jesus as his son despite not having a physical relationship with Mary, as per the command of God (Matthew 1:25).
