Title I urge you / Revelation 3:18-19
Content I urge you / Revelation 3:18-19
Key Verse: “I beseech you, that you may buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may be rich, and white robes that you may wear so that you may not see the shame of your nakedness, and buy eye drops that you may see on your eyes” (Revelation 3:18).
It is said that Laodicea was not only rich in produce, but also had a famous medical school and was especially famous for eye drops. It is very difficult for a church built in such a city to keep the truth without being tempted or corrupted. He is encouraging and praising, saying, “Overcome, overcome, persevere and overcome.”
Jesus gave three prescriptions to the wretched, poor, blind and naked church of Laodicea.
First, buy gold refined by fire and make it rich.
Gold is needed to solve the extreme spiritual poverty of the Laodicean church. Here, gold means 'true faith'. Scottish surgeon James Simston made a great contribution to modern medicine by inventing many medicines, including anesthetics. When asked, “What was your greatest discovery,” he replied, “The greatest discovery of my life was knowing that I was a sinner and that Jesus was my Savior.”
Second, buy a white robe and put it on so that you don't show the shame of your nakedness
Wearing white clothes means holy deeds of the saints. As the economy grows, the GNP increases, the knowledge and culture level increases, the pornography index, the pleasure index, and the corruption index increase. With the development of information and communication technology and the rapid spread of computers, Being accustomed to anonymity, modern people's lewdness and depravity index is increasing. Sodom was so rich in material, but there were no 10 righteous people.
Third, buy eye drops and apply them to your eyes so you can see.
It is a great thing that people's eyes were darkened and they only looked at money and saw the world. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, does not come from the Father” (1 John 2:16). Saul, who was persecuting the church, said that something like scales fell from his eyes (Acts 9:18). “Do you have eyes, but do not see, and ears, but do not hear?” (Mark 8:18) The church in Laodicea was the first and the last, and We must reopen our eyes to see the Lord, the King of kings (Rev 1:18), who was raised from the dead.
Prayer: Lord, help us to buy gold, prepare white clothes, and apply eye drops, so that we may again find rich and holy faith. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
