Text: Isaiah 14:4~23 Title: True Success
If you look at the lives of men, there are many times when you feel that without God, you can live only with effort, and you will have a successful life with only effort. He becomes the founder of the kingdom and lives as if he were the emperor of the kingdom. He lives as if everyone exists for him under his own abilities. Sometimes the lives of proud men who do not know God are often like Babylon.
The Babylonian Empire seemed to be an absolute, global, and enduring empire. So they wrestled with God with this pride. The kings of Babylon one after another oppressed God's people. Monarchs and empires acquired immense wealth and power. Babylon was a “golden city” (v. 4). The king of Babylon, who had amassed such a fortune by “oppressing the nations” (v. 6), made them obey his will. Destroying the world (v. 17), he treated the captives harshly (v. 17).
The king of Babylon promises that he will be superior to all the nations around him, and that he will be exalted above all around him as the heavens are high on the earth. Belshazzar had the vessels of the temple in Jerusalem brought to be defiled (Daniel 5:2). All the kings of the nations were all buried in their own tombs (v. 18), but the king of Babylon was “cast out” and there is not even a grave (v. 19). The last monarch, Belshazzar, was the fear of all the mighty men of the world (Ezekiel 32:27), but he is killed that night when the kingdom is suddenly attacked (Daniel 5:30). Everything he believed would protect him was of no help at the decisive moment. The success that men so long for is often shabby than they imagined because it looks gorgeous on the outside but empty on the back. So after success, men's lives are disappointing.
Guys, did you know that the most successful people can also be the most unsuccessful? There is a saying that when you climb a mountain, you have to be prepared to come down. There is no such thing as a successful life enough to live your life ignoring God. A life lived solely for success is at the end of a cliff and futile. The end of my life should be hope. A life where there must be many people who respect and love me, and God and the people of Heaven who will welcome me in heaven are eternal successes. What is the end of your life where you give up everything now and run? No matter how important success is, don't forget God.
