Jacob is reconciled with his brother Esau
Genesis 33:1-20
Through the words of chapter 32, we are told that Jacob was on his way home from the land of Canaan to meet his brother Esau.
I learned how to prepare and how God changed Jacob by meeting God at the Jabbok River.
Today, I would like to share the grace with the story of Esau's reunion and Jacob's settlement in Shechem.
Dear saints,
Two brothers reunite after 20 years, reconcile and forgive.
The hatred of his brother Esau toward Jacob is not a simple matter to be resolved. But God's blessing on Jacob moved Esau's heart.
Without the help of the Holy Spirit, we cannot forgive and be reconciled to one another. It is very difficult and painful if we do not receive forgiveness from those who should be forgiven.
Unforgivable material guarantees can't do anything about the guilt of the wrongdoer.
But if the person who has been harmed tells the perpetrator that I will forgive you, it will be very comfortable.
Not only do we receive forgiveness, but we also have peace of mind when we forgive those we need to forgive.
If we harbor anger, we will harm ourselves first before causing harm and resentment to others.
There is life and anger in the eyes of the unforgiving person.
And emotions kill themselves. Pain, such as indigestion, ensues.
That is why Jesus emphasized forgiveness. Look at Matthew 5:23-24.
And look at Matthew 6:14-15. Jacob spent 20 years in a foreign country with unforgivable pain, conflict, and fear. And I decided to go back home.
God appears to Jacob and comforts him. But still there is fear in his heart.
More and more, Esau was filled with fear when he heard that he was coming to him with 400 men.
Look at verses 1-3.
It is now an unavoidable situation. Jacob stands at a crossroads in life.
In such a situation, Jacob shows an unusual behavior. He puts a maidservant and her children before the crowd, then Leah and her children, and lastly, his beloved wife Rachel and her son Joseph. This was so that Rachel could escape first in case of an emergency.
And he stands in the front, cuts his knees, and bows unconditionally.
