Title Judges 13:24-14:4 Achilles' heel
Content Judges 13:24-14:4)
Manoah's wife named her son Samson. The meaning of Samson is ‘little sun’ or ‘sun-like’, and it contains the hope to become a bright light for the Israelites who had been oppressed by the Philistines for 40 years.
Samson, who was born a Nazarite, grew up wonderfully. The Bible records that “the child grew up, and the Lord blessed him” (verse 24). Samson received the hope of being the savior of Israel. But even Samson had one fatal weakness. Samson's Achilles heel was none other than a woman.
Samson told his parents that he would marry a foreign woman. Samson's parents were very disappointed in him because it was impossible for Samson, a Nazarite who was no other person, to marry a foreign woman.
Why did Samson fail? It's about going to a place you shouldn't go and seeing things you shouldn't see (verse 1). Samson went down to Timnah and saw one of the Philistine daughters. Samson, who was in full swing, became sexually attracted to a glamorous foreign woman and fell in love with her according to the lust of his eyes.
How is this era in which we live? The world is full of sexual seduction and pleasure far more than in Samson's day. Satan, who has captured the culture of this world, is pouring out indiscriminate attacks by seducing the saints with the world's culture and pleasures. The people of the world cannot resist Satan's temptation and are struggling in sin. What should our Christian life be like in our time? We must thoroughly discern where we should not go and what we should not see. Otherwise, we will never be able to live holy lives as spiritual Nazirites.
Satan also provokes our fatal weaknesses. Samson's Achilles heel was a woman. So, what is your Achilles heel? Is material honor power knowledge lust reason? We can live as holy spiritual Nazirites only when we know exactly what our Achilles heel is and take good care of it.
