Title Judges 15:14-20 Cry out
Content (Judges 15:14-20)
Samson took revenge on the Philistines for burning and killing his wife and father-in-law. So the Philistines sent soldiers to Judah to capture Samson, but the men of Judah, fearful of the Philistines, with 3,000 men, captured Samson, who was hiding in the crevice of the rock of Etham, and brought him to the Philistines. The Philistines cheered for joy when the men of Judah tied Samson tightly. But the moment they cheered, the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Samson. The new rope that bound Samson was cut like cedar in fire, and Samson killed 1,000 Philistines with one donkey jawbone (verse 15).
But Samson, victorious by the power of the Spirit of the Lord, exclaimed, “I have slain a thousand men with the jawbone of a donkey” (verse 16). And seeing the corpses piled up, he called the name of the place ‘Ramathrehi’, which means ‘mountain of the jawbone’ (verse 17). what do you mean. Instead of giving the glory of victory to Jehovah, Samson credited it to himself and even named it ‘Mountain of the Jawbone’ to commemorate his achievement. This is pride. Immediately after becoming proud, Samson became extremely thirsty, and he cried out to the Lord with great thirst (verse 18). God made Samson taste the pain of thirst when he became arrogant and thought that he had accomplished everything on his own.
When Samson realized his pride and remembered God who provided great salvation, he cried out to God and God answered Samson's prayer. Samson, who saved his life because God heard his prayer, renamed the ‘mountain of the jawbone’, which he called to commemorate him, as ‘Enhakkore’ to commemorate God’s work. ‘Enhakkore’ means ‘fountain of those who cry’. God does not turn away from the prayers of those who cry out. He will surely answer the prayers of those who cry out in faith.
