Title: The Heart to Keep Thanksgiving Day Text: Deuteronomy 16:9-12
Introduction] Gratitude in the life of faith is thought to be equivalent to 'licorice in medicine'. Where licorice enters, it is said to neutralize all kinds of toxins. And it is said to taste sweet and make it good for consumption. Likewise, in the life of faith, thanksgiving is a natural and essential element.
1. The Necessity of Thanksgiving
The Feast of Harvest was first observed in the land of Canaan. It means that we have come to live under the rule of God in the land that God has promised. In the New Testament, it means that we have come to live a life where God walks with us through the coming of the Holy Spirit. So, the Thanksgiving Day is a confession of faith. The Bible says that for a more fundamental reason, it is easy to forget God if humans are full and cut their backs, so this feast is set up so that we can always give thanks (Deuteronomy 8:13,14). We also need to remember and be thankful for the grace of God who saved us from death, who protected and guided us in difficult times.
2. Training in the life of gratitude
3. Degree of expression of gratitude
In verse 10 of the main text, thanksgiving should contain (1) testimonies and confessions of God's blessings “according to the blessings given.” (2) “Measure your strength”, which means to give while thinking. (3) It should be given “voluntarily,” not with compulsion, but with a joyful heart. It is not what God wants us to do, not too much or too little, but to give freely in thought of God's blessings with a happy heart. It is a good donation to make this donation as much as we think we can do it with a little more effort.
Closing] Finally, on this Thanksgiving Day, everyone should participate. And you have to be willing to participate. We must rejoice in God, and God must be the source of joy (verse 11). That is why the Bible commands us to be conscious of the Lord and rejoice. Trust that God rules, guides and supplies you!
