Title Let's celebrate Chuseok / John 7:37-39

Let's celebrate the meaningful Chuseok / John 7:37-39

Key Verse: Whoever believes in me, as the Bible says, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water (John 7:38).

Word: Chuseok is a really fun holiday. As Chuseok approaches, I can't get a good night's sleep with excitement every night.

Israel also has three major festivals. There are the Passover, which is the day when we saved them from slavery in Egypt, the harvest festival when we harvest the firstfruits of the grain and give thanks, and the Feast of Tabernacles to commemorate the grace of God who led us in the wilderness.

The text ‘at the end of the feast, on the great day’ means the day when the Feast of Tabernacles ends. Today, I will talk about the meaningful Chuseok holiday, focusing on the main text. During the reign of King Yuri of Silla, Chuseok was celebrated with scissors. Later, it was called ‘Chuseok’ after the mid-autumn festival () and the moon stone ().

Chuseok has been observed nationally by the nation because it is a time when the climate is the best and the poorest can eat fresh grain. The three things that believers should do during Chuseok are to give thanks to God with the whole family.

We should use it as a season of gratitude for the grace of God bestowed on us in the past. And that grace must include the grace of salvation. Because it is God who made the rain and it is God who gave the climate, we have to farm and eat fresh grain and give thanks to God.

Another is to be filial to your parents. The main purpose of going home after spending a lot of time on Chuseok is to gather family members to commemorate ancestors. The turn is also offered from the heart to show filial piety to the parents. We work hard to be filial to our dead parents, but it is very natural to be filial to our living parents.

“Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment, that it may go well with you and you may live long on the earth.” And Chuseok is a great opportunity to share the gospel with your family. 1 Corinthians 10:20 says, “For the sacrifices of the Gentiles are offered to demons.” If you associate with a demon, you are cursing your family and offspring. Show love to your neighbors and let them share the gospel.

Prayer: May the sacrifices offered by our family become a worship service that gives thanks for God's grace, not the sacrifices of Gentiles. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
