1. After this, Jesus went through every city and village, proclaiming the kingdom of God and preaching the gospel, and the twelve disciples were with him.
2. Also, some women from whom demons were cast out and healed, Mary, who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
3. And Joanna the wife of Chusa, a steward of Herod, and Susanna and many other women were with them, and they served them with their possessions.
4. People from every town came to Jesus and formed a great crowd, and Jesus told them in parables,
5. The sower went out to sow his seed, and while he was sowing, some fell by the wayside, and was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up.
6. Others fell on the rocks and came out, and dried up because there was no moisture.
7. Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew together and choked them.
8. Others fell on good soil, and after being born, they yielded a hundredfold. When he had said these words, he cried out, "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear!"
9. The disciples asked the meaning of this parable.
10. He said, To you it is granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to others it is in parables, so that they may see, see, and hear, but do not understand.
11. This is the parable: The seed is the word of God.
12. Those by the wayside are those who have heard the word, and then the devil comes and takes the word from their hearts so that they may not believe and be saved.
13. Those that are on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy, but have no root, but believe for a while, and then turn away when they are tested.
14. Those that fell among the thorns are those who have heard the word, but are choked up by the cares, riches, and pleasures of this life, and they do not bear fruit.
15. Those in the good soil are those who hear the word with an honest and good heart, keep it, and bear fruit with patience.
