We often refer to the closest relationship a person has to a marriage relationship. However, there are too many couples these days who divorce and turn to men and women. When we think of it this way, even if we try to deny it, it is not too much to say that the relationship that cannot be denied is the relationship between parent and child. The relationship between parent and child is a relationship of love and also a real relationship. Because these relationships are natural and not artificial, no one can deny or break them. What kind of parents should we Christians be?
First, parents who make us fear Jehovah God. The modern age is an era of high enthusiasm for education. They want their children to enter a first-class school and succeed in the future. However, Dr. Nathan Fudge, who served as president of Harvard University, once vehemently criticized the modern education trend, saying that modern education is making humans into machines that calculate and speak.
Before we want our children to know many things, we must hope to be true human beings. You must become a true believer. It is the most precious thing for believers to pass on to their children the legacy of believing in God before acquiring knowledge. The Bible says that 'the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge'. The foundation of knowledge and our greatest treasure is to believe and fear God. Therefore, when raising children, parents must make an effort to believe in God.
Second, we must become parents who pray for their children. No matter how well we try to raise our children, there are many times when things don't go our way because humans are insufficient. No matter how much I try to make my children have faith, there are times when I just can't. We must pray at this time. As always, good parents put their efforts into prayer. Children who receive a lot of prayer grow well both physically and spiritually.
Third, we must become godly parents. Even if parents make their children believe and pray for them, everything is in vain without godliness in their lives. If our parents attend church and pray diligently, but their children think that life is a mess, the problem is serious. So parents must first be respected by their children. From a godly mother like Hannah came the great leader Samuel. Let us not forget that the forerunner of Christ, John the Baptist, was born of a godly mother like Elizabeth.
