*** Historical understanding of Jesus' death (vv. 47-54)
Jesus performed many miracles and miracles during his earthly life, but he showed greater power by dying on the cross. First, he broke down the barriers between God and man, shook the earth cursed by sin, and foreshadowed the resurrection that would take place on the last day. Although the death of Jesus seemed superficial, it was an event that caused the death of one person, but it was a tremendous event that shook the entire universe and completely changed the course of history. However, the believers in Jesus seem to underestimate the fact that Jesus' death solved only their personal problems. The blood of Jesus was sprinkled not only on me, but on the whole universe, making it a new creation. Therefore, I must now look at the history of the world anew through the cross.
*** Saints who did not expect the resurrection of Jesus (verses 55-61)
When the women saw Jesus' death, the women mourned and felt sorry for him, and Joseph of Arimathea carefully buried the body of the Lord. They clearly loved our Lord. However, in their attitude, there is no sign that they expected the Lord's resurrection or more amazing things.
True faith should be more than pouring out affection for the Lord, but at this time, their faith seems to have stayed at that level. Even today, who have already experienced the resurrection of Jesus, there are people who still love Jesus only on a personal level without realizing the power of Jesus or His reign. There are times when I minimize Jesus and make him a person for me. Now I need to broaden my thinking a little bit so that I can treat our Lord as the ruler of this world.
*** Those who feared the resurrection of Jesus (verses 62-66)
Whereas those who loved Jesus did not expect the resurrection, the Jewish leaders who caused Jesus to die on the cross rather predicted the resurrection. For them, the resurrection was not a joy, but a fear, not a comfort, but a threat. So they did their best to prevent the resurrection of Jesus. Looking at their hard work that eventually went in vain, I think that those who do not believe in the resurrection of Jesus today are their descendants. Now we can see the Jewish leader who was terrified by sealing the tombstone and setting up a watchman against those who were indifferent to the resurrection or who logically denied it. And we should pray for their unbelief rather than hate or despise them. I have to look around to see if there are such people around me.
