Title New Commandment/1 John 2:7-11
Contents New Commandment/1 John 2:7-11
* New Commandments
The commandments in 2:3 and below are used in the plural, but the new commandment in 2:7 is used in the singular. This is because all the words of God (commandments) are summarized in one commandment of love of Jesus Christ.
1. The new commandment is the old commandment (7)
John has said that those who know Jesus Christ are the ones who keep the commandments, and only those who keep those commandments are those who live as children of light in Christ. But this commandment is not a new commandment, it is said, “You have heard it from long ago.”
This is the “commandment of love,” referring to the words of Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 22:37-40, and John 13:34.
These commandments on the love of God and love of neighbor have been continued since ancient times, and Jesus gave them as the most precious commandment.
2. The difference between the old and new commandments (8)
However, the new commandment referred to here again does not differ in its content, but Jesus Christ Himself showed that love in a new way (incarnation, sacrifice on the cross, life of love) through His life, and the life of all Christians Because it is always something new to experience.
3. True doers of the new commandment (9-11)
Those who practice the new commandment are not those who claim their position with their mouths (they are in the light, they know the true knowledge, etc.), but those who practice love.
You can't say that you hate your brother and that you are doers of the commandments, and you can't say that you are children of light (children of God, those who are saved) who live in the light.
4. Children of Light and Children of Darkness
John said that those who live in the light receive the light and can see the bright path in the light of the light and live righteously, but those who live in the dark are blinded by the darkness and live a life of turmoil, unable to determine the direction in which they should live. point out and say
