Introduction
The reasons for the praise have been stated in several places. I am only going to talk about the reasons why we should sing praises in the text.
Why should we sing praises?
1. Because the Lord is on our side (verse 1).
“Answer me, Israel. If the Lord were not on our side, what would we have been like?”
The psalmist said that God is on our side and among those who help us (Psalm 118:6-9). That is why it is proper to praise God.
2. Because he did not let the enemy overcome him (verse 6).
“Praise the Lord, who has made us no prey to be torn by the teeth of the enemy.
This means that the enemy did not prevail. Jonah went into the belly of the meat, but the meat could not digest it, and Daniel went into the lions' den, but the lion could not chew it. This is the evidence that God was with us. That is why enemies cannot harm the saints they love. That is why we must sing praises. It was because of God's help that the enemy did not prevail. Then how can we not sing praises?
3. It is because we have set our souls free from sin (verses 7-8).
“As a bird escapes from a hunter's net, we have saved our lives. They were torn, and we were set free. The Lord who made heaven and earth helps us.”
The bird's escape from the snare speaks of a life of freedom and liberty. Our souls are also liberated from the same condition, so how can we not praise them? The people of Israel have been set free from Egypt, we have been set free from iniquity, and we have been set free from all shackles. And since we have been set free in the truth, we should praise them even more (John 8:32).
conclusion
We should praise the Lord until we stop breathing for the above reasons.
