Introduction
Giving thanks is not something that God tells us to do, but it should be done in the sense of repaying his grace voluntarily. And we should give thanks in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
The author of the text said, "Give thanks to the Lord. He is good, and his mercy endures forever. People who have been saved by the Lord and those who have been saved from the hand of the enemy, give thanks to the Lord. Thank you to the Lord, all of you." I did (1-3).
Why should we thank the Lord?
1. Because He saved us (verses 8-9)
“Give thanks for the mercy of the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord for His wonderful salvation which He has given to people, and He has made the thirsty drink plenty of water and the hungry eat good food to their heart's content” (verses 8-9).
In a world like the wilderness, we have been saved by God's grace and entered into eternal life. How can we not be thankful?
2. Because he gave us freedom (verses 14-16).
“He rescued them from darkness and darkness, and broke the chains that held them together. Give thanks for the mercy of the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord for His wonderful salvation to man. Because the Lord broke down the bronze gate and broke the iron bars” (verses 14-16).
This is freedom from the state of death and freedom from the state of slavery (John 8:32). So we should thank God.
3. Because He healed us (verses 20-22).
“He healed them with a single word, and brought them out of the pit of destruction. Give thanks for the mercy of the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord for His wonderful salvation to man. Offer sacrifices of thanks and spread the word of the Lord's works with joyful songs” (verses 20-22).
God saved us from the same condition as the seriously ill. So how can you not be grateful? Even if you are thankful, you have to volunteer for the rest of your life. This is because it will be the proper duty of the one who received it.
conclusion
Giving thanks to God is not something you will ever regret, so no matter how much you give thanks, there is nothing wrong. Praise the God who saved us from the same condition as those who wander in the desert, who freed us from our slavery and no freedom, and who healed us from our critically ill condition, to Him forever and ever. Knowing that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being grateful, let's live a life of gratitude in everything.
