Title Psalm 80 (2010.9.1)

Contents

Title: earnest prayer

Text: (Psalm 80:1~19)

Hymns: 365 chapters. a person with a troubled heart

Date: September 1, 2010 (Wednesday) 5 am

Venue: Jeonju Yebut Church Small Worship Room

Today's text is a prayer to restore northern Israel, thinking about the time when Israel was in its midst in the past, long after the destruction of northern Israel. What is special about this psalm is that it was written for the restoration of Israel in the north, whereas most of the psalms are David's psalms and were written centered on Judah in the south.

The title of the poem is ‘The Poem of Asaph’, and it is adapted to ‘Sosan-nim Eteo’. A poem of Asaph does not necessarily mean that Asaph wrote it, but it means that it was kept by the descendants of Asaph. And ‘Sosan-nim edon’ means ‘lily of the evidence’, but I can’t tell if it’s a tune or the name of an instrument.

The people of Judah had the belief that if God wanted, even the people of northern Israel, which had been destroyed, could return to God and be revived. So they think of the Israelites who were taken captive in various places as people who will one day return to God.

What was the content of their prayers?

1. Let your light shine (verse 1).

This psalmist is praying that God, who became the shepherd of Israel who leads Joseph like a flock, will lead them like a flock in the current national crisis, just as he has led them in past history. Because he cannot see the traces of God sitting on the cherub and appearing and working, he is pleading for a light to shine through with a feeling of frustration.

2. Show your power (verse 2).

It means that all of God's salvation comes from God's power. Man needs the power of God and exists by the power of God. God's power to save man is the mysterious power and wisdom that saves man from destruction.

3. Hear the cry of tears. (Verse 5)

It is a confession that the psalmist lived a life of many tears, and at the same time, it is a sad appeal for the delay in the hand of salvation. He appeals to the Lord to put an end to his busy wrath, to deliver him quickly, and to set him free from the ridicule of his enemies.

The earnest prayers of the saints move the throne of God and become prayers that are answered.
