The queen's feast (1:8-9)

The Persian drinking habit had a bad habit of drinking a lot of alcohol at once.

But King Ahasuerus did not do this, and allowed everyone to eat and drink freely as they wished. If you drink compulsory alcohol, depending on the person, the place can become a burdensome and painful place rather than a pleasant and exciting place.

This shows King Ahasuerus's meticulous care for his people.

1. A feast for women

When King Ahasuerus held a feast for his princes, servants, and people, it seems that only men participated in the king's feast.

The meaning of the name “Vashti” means “to be loved” or “beautiful”, which means that it is favored by Ahasuerus.

It can be seen that when the king had a feast with the men, the queen also had a feast with the women, and it is said that there is a great event worthy of a national feast.

On the one hand, it was not that women could not participate in men's banquets at that time. Later, it can be seen from the fact that Esther prepared a feast and invited the king and Haman.

(Esther 5:8) “If I have found favor in the king’s sight, and the king grants my petition and grants my request, then come again to the banquet I am giving for the king and Haman. Hari.”

2. Wasdi's uniqueness

The fact that Vashti prepared a feast for the women at the palace of Ahasuerus suggests that the power of the queen was very strong.

This Queen Vashti became proud because of it. It sees that when the king called, he ignored the king's orders and did not come out.

It was the rule of the country that no matter how much the queen, she should absolutely obey the king's orders.

3. In the words of the proud Vashti

Queen Vashti, who once enjoyed enough power to hold a banquet independently in the royal palace, disregards the authority of King Ahasuerus, the supreme sovereign, and disobeys the orders, and is eventually stripped of all positions and powers.

It can be reminiscent of Adam and Eve who were expelled from the Garden of Eden because they betrayed God and disobeyed the commandments.

(Proverbs 16:18) “Pride precedes destruction, and a haughty heart precedes stumbling.”
