Title Trust in Jehovah
Contents Hymn 25 “Take the Crown”? Chapter 30 “Jehovah God”
Saints who trust in the Lord! Jehovah God is willing to reveal himself to his people. Because God is omnipotent, he can do anything he wants. He blesses his people, especially those who fear him. The poet compares Almighty God with false idols. We become like the object we love to worship. Those who follow and serve the true God will live the true life. But the end of those who serve false and vain things is futile. Psalm 115 was written by the poet during his captivity and shows his conviction and determination.
First, the psalmist emphasizes Jehovah God in contrast to foreign gods (idols) (Psalm 115:1-8).
He wants to give glory to God alone first (Psalm 115:1). Gentiles ridicule his faith (Psalm 115:2), but Jehovah is the mighty God of heaven (Psalm 115:3). But the pagan idols are handicrafts made of silver and gold. The psalmist stresses that it is futile to serve a lifeless god (idol) (Psalm 115:5-7). Both those who make idols and those who rely on them are participating in vanity (Psalm 115:8).
Second, the poet appeals to complete trust in God (Psalm 115:9-11).
God is Israel's help and shield (Psalm 115:10,11). Help is to rescue when you need it every moment, and shields are especially needed for defense. In spiritual battle we need both. Finally, the poet speaks of his conviction and determination (Psalm 115:12-18). His conviction is that those who fear God will be blessed. His resolve is to praise God from now on to eternity (Psalm 115:18).
Dear saint! The psalm encourages those who fear God to depend on God to the end (9-11). He is confident that God will bless those who trust in him. The life he desires is a life of praise that always glorifies God. Therefore, from now on, we will depend on the Lord, praise Him, and long for Him. -Amen-
Our Lord Jesus Christ! I want to trust in the Lord's love (John 13:1), power (Acts 3:16), and immutability (Hebrews 13:8) in both police and adversity.
