Two kinds of processions (Luke 7:11-17)

▣ The purpose of the Lord's coming - to give life and abundance
The purpose of Jesus' coming to this earth was 'so that they might have life and have it more abundantly' (John 10:10). Those who met Jesus received true life and enjoyed abundant life. The text also introduces people who met Jesus and received life and enjoyed an abundant life. When Jesus and his company went to Nain after healing the centurion's servant in Capernaum, they met another procession. It was a procession in which the widow's only reader died and was buried. If Jesus' procession was a procession of joy and hope, their procession was a procession of despair and lamentation. If these two processions had passed without incident, it would have been a meaningless meeting, but when they meet the Lord, they experience a wonderful change.
▣ The life of the widow of Nain
She was a widow living alone after her husband had died. Living as a widow at that time was not difficult at all. Fortunately, this woman had a son, and watching his son grow up gave him strength and depended on him like a husband. But even his son dies. Who will comfort her with her wretched life? Fortunately, the people around him are helping the funeral, but everyone was saddened by the woman's wretched life. No words could comfort this woman.
