Sermons for Preaching

Title Until When/Psalm 13:1

How long is the content/Psalm 13:1

Key Verse: How long, O LORD, will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

Word: I do not know when this psalm was written in David's life, but there are many questions about 'how long?', so it is titled 'The Weeping Psalm'.

1. David's troubled question (verses 1-2)

First, he asks, “God, have you forgotten me?” and asks why did God stop smiling at the kindness, love, covenant, and love that God showed before. This question seems to be resentful, but it is in fact desperate. It is that earnestness that makes you desperately seek God. Second, it asks a worrying question, “God, how long will I be troubled?” The thoughts and sorrows that plague David lead him to ask this question. Third, “How long will I have to show the pride and pride of my enemies?” But he also knows that all of this has an end and a limit.

2. Prayer according to anxiety (verses 3 to 4)

His prayer is first, “Think of me.” It is a prayer to know your situation. Second, “Answer my troubled question.” Third, “Open my eyes.” I pray that you will illuminate your spiritual eyes so that you can properly judge every situation you face. Situations of anxiety cloud a person's good judgment and take away the ability to think. Even the spiritual eyes are blurred. He prays these prayers and explains why God must hear his prayers. “May I sleep the sleep of death”. “Do you want me to die? Father!” he cries and hangs. “When my enemies are victorious and their enemies rejoice, can you see what God is doing?” We earnestly pray that God's children will not lose and the enemy won't happen.

3. The joy of victory

The Lord does not turn away from the worries and prayers of his children. After all, He is a Father who is hospitable to His children, a God who gives the joy of salvation, and a God who shows mercy. The expression “merciful” means “love that never fails”. There is no failure in God's love. Anxieties, enemies, and enemies do not last long. God is a never-failing Father to his children.

Prayer: God, we also have troubles. But then, please make me more earnest toward God and hold on to your faithfulness who does not turn away. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
