Vashti's mistake (1:13-16)
Vashti's refusal to give the king's name causes an unexpected shock. In addition to the king's wrath, strong sanctions are being discussed, including a meeting of close aides to respond to her protest.
1. The meeting against the queen (verses 13-14)
① A king who seeks advice from doctors
The king became enraged when Vashti did not come out against the king's orders, so he contemplated how to deal with this matter, and summoned the wise men to ask for advice on the matter.
(Jeremiah 2:35) “But you say, ‘I am innocent, yea, his wrath has departed from me.
The queen's disobedience due to the king's mistake provided opportunities for his enemies.
2. The wise men's criticism of the queen (verses 15-16)
King Ahasuerus wanted the wise men to deal with the disobedience of the king's command from the eunuch, and to this, he is reporting the wrongdoing of Memugan Iwasti, one of the seven princes.
① Wrong with the king
* Vashti disobeyed the king's orders, thereby tarnishing the king's prestige in front of many people.
* As a wife, Vashti not only did not practice the common sense of building up her husband's prestige, but also committed a crime that undermined the king's authority as a queen, so this should be governed by the national law.
② bad influence on the people
* Vashti's second problem was wrong with the princes of Gag and the people.
* The open refusal of the king's orders was disregard for the king as well as his people.
Reason: The reason the king asked Vashti to leave was for the people who participated in the banquet, so I thought that breaking the command was the result of ignoring the king and the people.
③ Sharp judgments of doctors
The words of the wise men who reported to the king were to judge the queen's actions objectively with sharp judgment and candid expression, and to decide the king's judgment by telling the king.
This was done so that the existence of the queen could no longer be acknowledged.
This shows that God is preparing Esther's salvation for the Jewish people through Vashti's condemnation.
That is, through the judgment of the wise men, they used it as a tool to accomplish the will of God.
(Proverbs 14:35) “A servant who acts wisely finds favor with the king, and a servant who conducts dishonor finds his wrath.”
