Title What is Faith?/Hebrews 11:1-3

What is faith?/Hebrews 11:1-3

Proposition: Faith is confidence in the future and is the basis for being recognized by God.

Purpose: To know the principle of faith and to know the right faith

Introduction: The text called the Faith Chapter tells what the essence of faith is.

1. What is faith? (Verse 1)

A. The reality of desired things

Reality (hyppostesis) - It has the meaning of certainty and substance (foundation, ground).

1. Substance - It means a pillar that supports God's promises while waiting for them to be realized.

2. Confidence - being sure of a promise that will be fulfilled in the future

B. Evidence of things not seen

Evidence (Elekkos) - meaning to understand, prove, know

1. To know for sure and prove the invisible.

2. It can only be seen with the eyes of faith.

C. To believe without doubting the Word (promise)

1. The example of Abraham (Romans 4:20) - Noah, Moses, etc.

2. What confidence do we have?

3. Although invisible, we have confidence through the Word of God.

2. The Role of Faith

A. Evidence obtained by the forefathers of faith

Evidence (Mt. Emalturede) - It has the meaning of recognition and good results.

1. The forefathers recognized by God

¤ Abraham - God's friend (2 Chronicles 20:7)¤ David - A man after God's heart (1 Samuel 13:14)

¤ Moses - A man who was meek (Numbers 12:3)

2. Even the forefathers of faith had their shortcomings.

¤ Abraham - deceiving his wife as his sister

¤ David - Murder of Uriah, Adultery and Census

¤ Moses - Taking a Cushite woman as a concubine despite having a wife

3. The reason they received God's approval and good results was because they accepted God's word without question and lived by faith.

B. Belief in the Unseen

1. Believing that all things were created by the word (Psalm 33:9)

2. The invisible becomes believable.

3. The visible comes from the invisible.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

C. What are our beliefs and convictions?

1. We believe in the existence of God, His power, and creation.

2. He loves us and believes that we are saved.

3. We believe in eternal hell and heaven.

Conclusion: Faith is believing the unbelievable, making the undesirable, and making the impossible possible. Let's thank God for giving us this kind of faith.
