congregation. Same word as in 1 Chronicles 28:8.

whom = the one whom.

hath chosen. Compare 1 Chronicles 22:9. 2 Samuel 12:25.

young and tender. Compare 1 Chronicles 22:5.

the palace. Hebrew. birah. Used only here and 1 Chronicles 29:19. Esther 1:2, Esther 1:5; Esther 2:3, Esther 2:5, Esther 2:8, Esther 2:15; Esther 8:14; Esther 9:6, Esther 9:11, Esther 9:12. Nehemiah 1:1; Nehemiah 2:8; Nehemiah 7:2. Daniel 8:2. The name for a Persian royal palace, which shows the date of these hooks. (See note on "drams", 1 Chronicles 29:7), and why it is found among the Kethubim, or later books (and not with the historical books); and why Daniel is there too (and not among the prophets).

Verse 2

gold . . . silver . . . brass . . . iron. Put by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Cause), App-6, for what is made from them. The Figure of speech is completed by the words in italics.

and. Note the Figure of speech Polysyndeton (App-6), to emphasize the fifteen gifts of grace (3 x 5, see App-10).

onyx. Compare Genesis 2:12. Exodus 25:7; Exodus 28:9.

Verse 3

I have of mine own proper good = Seeing I have a treasure of mine own. Omit the word "which".

mine own proper good. Hebrew only one word, segullah = personal treasure. Occurs only in Exodus 19:5. Deuteronomy 7:6; Deuteronomy 14:2; Deuteronomy 26:18. Deuteronomy 29:3. Psalms 135:4. Ecclesiastes 2:8. Malachi 3:17 (see margin).

over and above. Compare 1 Chronicles 22:14.

holy. See note on Exodus 3:5.

Verse 4

houses. Compare 1 Chronicles 28:11.

Verse 5

to consecrate. See notes on Exodus 28:41. Leviticus 9:17.

Verse 6

chief = prince. See note on 1 Chronicles 27:16.

Verse 7

drams. Hebrew. "adarkonim, darics. Only here, and Ezr 27. A Persian coin Probably so called from the appellative "Darius" = the king"s coin (like English "sovereign"). Indicates date of book. See note on "the palace", 1 Chronicles 29:1, and consult App-51.

Verse 8

by the hand = unto the hand: i.e. under the direction of. Literally "[laying them] upon the hand".

Verse 9

rejoiced with great joy = rejoiced exceedingly. Figure of speech Polyptoton (App-6), for emphasis.

Verse 10

David said. A wonderful ascription of praise follows, tracing all good to Jehovah"s sovereign grace.

Verse 11

greatness. Compare Psalms 145:3.

and. Note the Figure of speech Polysyndeton in verses: 1 Chronicles 29:11-13, fourteen "ands", (including "Both" (1 Chronicles 29:12) and "Now" (1 Chronicles 29:12) placing great emphasis on the fifteen separate clauses of praise and prayer.

power. Compare 1 Chronicles 29:12 and Psalms 21:13.

glory. Compare 1 Chronicles 29:13. Psalms 96:6 ("beauty").

victory. Compare 1 Samuel 15:29 ("Strength").

majesty. Compare Psalms 21:5 ("honour").

of Thee. Hebrew from thy face. Figure of speech Anthropopatlieia. App-6.

Verse 14

Verse 15

we are strangers. Compare Psalms 39:12; Psalms 119:19.

none abiding = no hope of continuance.

Verse 17

triest the heart. Compare 1 Chronicles 28:9. 1 Samuel 16:7.

present = found.

Verse 18

Verse 20

congregation = assembly.

worshipped = did homage to. Hebrew. shahah. First occurrence in Genesis 18:2.

sacrificed sacrifices. App-43.

offered = offered up.

- did eat = they did eat.

-22 the second time. The first is recorded in 1 Chronicles 23:1 and 1 Kings 1:39.

Zadok. Solomon completed this act of David by removing Abiathar after David"s death (1 Kings 2:27)

Verse 24

submitted. Hebrew gave the hand unto: "hand" being put by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Adjunct), App-6, for the submission implied by it. Compare 2 Chronicles 30:8.

Verse 25

bestowed. Compare 1 Kings 3:13. 2 Chronicles 1:12. Ecclesiastes 2:9.
