devoted. Hebrew. haram, denotes a total and complete separation, which does not admit of redemption. First occurance of haram. It is rendered "devoted" only in this chapter (six times) and once in Numbers 18:14.

Only = nevertheless. Rendered in Leviticus 27:28, "notwithstanding".

Verse 33

passeth under the rod. The custom of counting was for the animals to pass through a small opening, and to be counted with the rod as they passed. Every tenth one was to be taken and marked; and not to be chosen (Leviticus 27:33). This custom is referred to in Ezekiel 20:37, i.e. once more claimed and marked ac belonging to Jehovah.
